AEW Dynamite opened with ‘Hangman’ Adam Page and Will Ospreay met in the ring to promo their upcoming match in the finals of the Owen Hart Tournament. The Don Callis Family came out, and Ospreay challenged them to a tag match, only for Hangman to decline.
The first match of the night was a four-way featuring Thunder Rosa, Toni Storm, Penelope Ford, and Anna Jay. The pace and highlights were great, but all four of them looked soft. Storm was victorious.
We Hurt People
The Hurt Syndicate went to the ring to call out the tag division for being weak. Top Flight came to challenge, only for MJF to blindside the two. Last week, Lashley challenged MJF to prove he can hurt people, and that he did, including blood and a power bomb to the apron. Lashley will give his response next week.
The Patriarchy
The next match continued the ROH Television Champion Nick Wayne storyline, where Christian Cage is testing him with people from Cage’s past. The surprise opponent was Rhino. The crowd called the finish for what it was, as Wayne had a squash match with a legend.
Bullet Club Booking
Next up, there was a trios match between Ricochet with the Young Bucks vs. Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, and Mike Bailey. All men brought great pace and reversals to the match. Matthew Jackson pinning Swerve Strickland is a strange decision, but was the finish nonetheless.
The bright upstart Kevin Knight got a great test in the veteran Kazuchika Okada. Knight looked great in the loss, until attacked after the match. Bailey would come to their rescue.
Main Event
Claudio Castignoli versus Samoa Joe was the main event. It was entertaining and physical from both men. Claudio tried to choke out Jo to get back at him for choking out his faction mate, Jon Moxley, last week. Joe has an upcoming title match against Moxley later this month.
