Lady Deacs Win in Historic Fashion
The Lady Deacs outran the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs 78-66 thanks to a historic performance by Grace Oliver. Oliver scored 30 points on an immaculate 14-14 shooting, including a 3 pointer. This set both the school and ACC record for most field goal attempts without a miss. Oliver became the 9th known player in D1 history with a perfect night shooting with 14 or more attempts. Oliver also 7 rebounds, 4 assists, no turnovers, and 3 steals.
Folks, this was one of the greatest college basketball performances I have ever seen. I encourage you to go out of your way to watch this one if you have not already. It is truly special when an athlete is able to replicate something that has only ever been done 8 times ever. Grace Oliver continues to be a standout player on a very good Wake Forest Demon Deacons team.
As a team, the Lady Deacs shot 58% from the field, 48% from three, and only 54% from the free throw line. Aurora Sorbye had 15 points on 5-8 shooting, including 5-7 shooting. Every shot Sorbye made was a three. Milan Brown had a huge performance, grabbing 10 rebounds and scoring 6 points on 3-5 shooting. Mary Carter had 16 points on 5-11 shotting, including 4-9 from beyond the arc. She also had 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 turnovers, and 3 steals. The Lady Deacs also managed to outrebound the Runnin’ Bulldogs 39-24, something the Lady Deacs have struggled to do at times this season.
Up next, the Lady Deacs go on the road on January 1st to face Pitt at 6pm on ACC Extra. This Demon Deacons team continues to be a strong team and will likely be a threat to finish in the top 4 of the ACC. Pitt has struggled heavily so far this season, with some pretty bad losses to low-major teams. The Lady Deacs have a 71.5% chance to win per ESPN Analytics.
