ATLANTA, Ga. – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University faced a Division I-FBS Sun Belt Conference program Friday night that took advantage of its advantages.

The Georgia State Panthers used their size and numbers to defeat the Aggies 59-10 at Center Parc Credit Union Stadium. The Panthers ran for 284 yards and six touchdowns on 38 attempts, averaging 7.5 yards per carry. Nine different Panthers carried the ball, and six scored rushing touchdowns.
Georgia State showed its scholarship depth by playing 91 players Friday. Beyond that, Panthers quarterbacks completed passes to 17 different receivers. For the second straight season against an FBS program, the Aggies also had quarterback injury issues.
Braxton Thomas limped off the field after getting sacked on third down during the first drive of the game, leaving junior Kevin White to finish most of the game. White, who has the most playing experience of any QB on the roster, finished 9 of 22 for 122 yards and a touchdown. He had some impressive runs, but the Panthers also sacked him four times.

The A&T defense held up after Georgia State’s first offensive drive, forcing a punt. But after a three-and-out by A&T, the Panthers got a 26-yard punt return from DJ Riles, putting the ball at the A&T 30-yard line. One play later, they took a 7-0 lead when running back Dennis Murray Jr. was matched with a linebacker out of the backfield.
Quarterback Cameran Brown capitalized by connecting with Murray for a 30-yard touchdown pass. Georgia State stayed in control from there, adding two more TDs to take a 21-0 lead with seven minutes remaining in the half. In between those scores, though, the Aggies produced a gem. White found senior tight end Anthony Rucker running free down the middle of the field.
The two connected for a 61-yard touchdown pass. Georgia State answered with a five-play, 58-yard drive that ended with a Murray 14-yard TD run after the Panthers took 2 ½ minutes off the clock. They went into the locker room with a 35-7 lead on a Brown-to-Jamari Miller 19-yard touchdown pass. Even though the Panthers’ offense kept rolling in the second half, the Aggies put together an impressive drive starting at the end of the third quarter and carrying into the fourth.

A 10-yard completion to Rucker and a 16-yard run by White put the Aggies in position for a 39-yard field goal. Freshman Asher Holland connected on the attempt for his first successful collegiate field goal. Rucker led the Aggies with 80 yards receiving and a touchdown on four receptions. Junior Jayvonne Dillard was the favorite target, as A&T targeted him eight times and he finished with 32 yards receiving on three catches.
The Aggies will now prepare for archrival North Carolina Central University (NCCU) next week, a rivalry game where they have not had much success lately. The two longtime rivals will play at NCCU’s O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium Saturday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m.
