AEW Blood and Guts
This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite was a special Blood and Guts edition. On the card, the first-ever women’s Blood and Guts match.
Thoughts On AEW Women’s Blood & Guts Match
This, the first-ever women’s Blood and Guts match, featured a Jamie Hayter-led team of Kris Statlander, “Timeless” Toni Storm, Mina Shirakawa, Willow Nightingale, and Harley Cameron, facing off with Mercedes Moné, Megan Bayne, Marina Shafir, and The Triangle of Madness (Thekla, Julia Hart, and Skye Blue). The match had blood, but it still lacked the physicality expected in the match type. There were numerous sloppy sections, and others where the wrestlers just appeared to look at each other when trying to fill time.
The overall match left an uneasy feeling. It looked like they left it all out there, but there were too many drawn-out sections and weak striking. Even a bladefest needs a story and physicality to be entertaining. The heel team was victorious in this match that lacked intrigue. They could be given respect for how far they were willing to put their bodies on the line and for taking numerous genuine blows.
End Of My Review
Some of these wrestlers need to worry more about their athleticism and moveset, and less about their gimmicks and skimpy outfits. All of the blood on television without a storyline leading up to, or a storyline in the match itself, isn’t a great look for wrestling. They certainly proved to be tough.
