Jon Moxley and Adam Page - Credit AEW
AEW Dynamite started with a Tag Team Championship eliminator tournament match: The Young Bucks versus The Outrunners in the first round. It was a run-of-the-mill match, more about the run-in from Swerve Strickland after the match, saving The Outrunners after their loss.
The Patriarchy Ends On AEW Dynamite
The next segment was an interview between Christian Cage and Tony Schiovone in the ring, with The Patriarchy seemingly dismantled at All In. His storyline appears to me moving away from the faction and towards a beef with Nick Wayne and/or Cope. Wayne and Kip Sabian jumped him after he verbally assaulted everyone, including the size of a certain area on Mama Wayne.
Championship Storylines
After losing the World Heavyweight Championship at All In, Jon Moxley got his rematch against Adam Page. This was a physical contest with slick reversals from both guys. Something was botched by production, as the referre clearly took an awkward amount of time “checking on” Hangman. Outside of that, the stars undoubtedly left it all in the ring. It wasn’t strange to see Page win, but it’s questionable as to why this wasn’t the main event.
The next match saw Athena and Billy Starks versus Alex Windsor and Toni Storm – terrible booking. Athena continues to get pushed, pinning the Wome’s World Champion in this tag match. Athena holds a contract for a title match whenever she so chooses, similar to WWE’s Money in the Bank contract.
MJF In Bad With The Hurt Syndicate
Dynamite also had a match between Mark Briscoe and Ricochet. This made certainly had it’s awkward moments, but it wasn’t about the match. This was all to set up an alternation with MJF, who faces Briscoe next week.
