Will Ospreay & Kenny Omega | PPV Promo
“The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay opened AEW Dynamite with an in-ring promo for his upcoming title match against Kenny Omega at All In, and would call him to the ring. His call, however, was answered by Don Callis. This segment was far too drawn out, with Omega, in short, saying Ospreay won’t win, before various members of The Don Callis Family rushed the ring. It was Omega who actually came to his aid, metal pipe in hand.
Nick Wayne Vs. MJF. Vs. Mike Bailey | Number Two Spot in Casino Gauntlet Match
Nick Wayne, MJF, and “Speedball” Mike Bailey had a triple-threat to determine the number two entrant in the upcoming Casino Gauntlet Match. MJF played the heel well, rolling out to let the other two face off and wear down.
Bailey and Wayne would have quick-paced segments before MJF picked his spots. This happened a few times before MJF forced Nick to tap out.
Jay White Vs. David Finlay | Continental Classic Cup
“Switchblade” Jay White and David Finlay faced off in the first round of the Continental Challenge Cup. These boys were laying it on thick, both beaten and bruised, truly leaving it all in the ring. Furthermore, the reversals were elite and smooth. White was the eventual winner and advanced to the next round of the tournament.
Adam Page, Brodido, The Demand | Trios Title Picture
New AEW World Trios Champions, “Hangman” Adam Page and Brodido (Bandido and Brody King) came to the ring for an interview with Tony Schivone. They were quickly interrupted by Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana, who stepped into the squared circle and insulted all three of the champs individually. The Demand (Ricochet and Gates of Agony) appeared and told Strickland to get out of the way of this trios storyline, and demanded a rematch, claiming their shoulders weren’t down for the three-count that won them the titles.
Ricochet stepped it up a notch, telling Strickland to get out of his Arena. He did, but only after an insult not suitable for this article. The champs told The Demand to come get those straps, but they only teased the match. It’s foreshadowed for a future title match.
Jericho Vs. Kevin Knight | TNT Championship Match
Jericho had a shot at “The Jet” Kevin Knight and his TNT Championship. Knight certainly carried the athleticism of the match, even if it was over-the-top. Don Callis distracted the referee, allowing Knight to use a low blow to pick up the pinfall victory.
Kris Statlander Vs. Viva Van | AEW Dynamite Results
Kris Statlander vs. Viva Van was up next. Van put on a good show for a relative unknown, but the result was never in doubt. Statlander picked up the pinfall victory before being joined by Mick Foley in the ring. He announced a fatal-four-way for the TBS Championship on Dynamite next week, also featuring Maya World, Hikaru Shida, and Persephone.
Persephone & Hikaru Shida Vs. Thunder Rosa & Maya World
The match could have used a better athlete, as it felt like four similar women, all doing the same things at an average pace. World pinned Shida for the finish.
Jack Perry Vs. Jon Moxley | Continental Classic Cup
“Jungle” Jack Perry and Jon Moxley closed the show with a first-round match in the Continental Classic Cup. Perry tried to match Moxley’s brutality early, but was busted open and thrown over the barrier for his troubles.
AEW continues to book Perry unrealistically, kicking out of a Gotch-style piledriver. He’d fight back to flip off Moxley, before going literal head-to-head with him.
He helped his opponent look good, but Moxley eventually choked Perry out cold.
