NCAA Division II member Mars Hill College claimed the team title at the Pioneer Invitational at Cherokee National Golf Course in Gaffney on Tuesday. Host Spartanburg Methodist College finished second after improving by 23 strokes in the final round. The Pioneers posted a 36-hole total of 775 (+199, 399-376).
Wies Bouwma of Lake Sumter earned individual medalist honors with a 166 (+22, 87-79), securing a seven-stroke victory.
The Pioneers were led by Adeline Todd, who earned All-Tournament Team honors and tied for third with a 178 (+34, 90-88). Melanie Meredith followed, trimming eight strokes off her opening-round score to tie for 11th at 196 (+52, 102-94). Just behind her was Isabella Marz, who finished 13th with a 199 (+55, 102-97).
Gracelyn Toler posted a final-round 97, an eight-stroke improvement, to finish at 202 (+58, 105-97). Freshman Tinsley McDaris rounded out the SMC lineup with a career-best 109 in Tuesday’s final round. She improved by 23 strokes to post a 241 (+97, 132-109).
