Samoa Joe celebrates winning the AEW World Trios Championship on Dynamite
This AEW Dynamite recap is from the April 22, 2026, episode from Portland.
MJF & The Jet – AEW Dynamite Recap
After losing the AEW World Heavyweight Championship to Darby Allin last week, MJF stormed the ring in a rage to open this AEW Dynamite recap. He called it a screw-job and told Allin to come back and give the title back, but AEW TBS Champion “The Jet” Kevin Knight came to the ring. After a verbal joust, Knight put his title on the line right then and there. A referee stormed the ring, only for the challenger to exit and announce he’ll need to wait a week.
Brody King Vs. Lio Rush
The first match of this AEW Dynamite recap was Brody King versus “Blackheart” Lio Rush. This was a mess from the start. Rush is doing a new gimmick that is similar to Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. Not only that, they gave the much undersized man far too much time in control of the match. Post victory, King called next for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.
Hikaru Shida Vs. Mina Shirakawa
Hikaru Shida, accompanied by Kris Statlander, versus Mina Shirakawa was up next; floosy versus samurai in terms of gimmicks. Pace was fairly slow, leaving the match a tough watch. The finish saw Statlander take a kendo stick from Shirakawa mid-match. Shida picked up the victory from the distraction.
Will Ospreay Vs. Mark Davis
After jumping his opponent last week, Mark Davis versus “The Ariel Assassin” Will Ospreay is the next part of this AEW Dynamite recap. Ospreay was getting the life beaten out of him early, with his opponent showing off amazing physicality.
Davis hit a tombstone on the apron, which caused the referee to end the match. Ospreay was about to take more punishment post-match, but the Death Riders made a surprise appearance. They stopped the damage, but also kidnapped him.
Underwhelming Samoa Joe Return – AEW Dynamite Recap
Samoa Joe made his long-awaited return. It’s too bad it was a squash match with the infamous “already in the ring.” There wasn’t even anything meaningful mentioned post-match.
Darby Allin Vs. Tomasso Ciampa
Allin came to defend his newly acquired title against “Psycho Killer” Tomasso Ciampa, just one week after obtaining it. This was pure intensity, as both of them left it all out there. One notable example is when Ciampa, already bleeding all over the place, hit the champ with his Psycho Driller, from the top rope, all the way to the floor.
This match was PPV-quality, unbelievable false finishes both ways. The champion ultimately retained via Scorpion Death Lock. This was a must-see classic. King took the ring post-match, and the two will face off next week for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.
