Lady Deacs Steamrolled by Blue Devils
In a game the Lady Deacs never led, they were blasted by the Duke Blue Devils by a score of 80-44. This is the 8th straight loss for the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest women’s basketball has not won a game since January 1st of this year. Despite a 9-0 start to the season and a win to start ACC play, the Lady Deacs have not been able to get any real momentum or consistency since.
Milan Brown led the way with 13 points for the Lady Deacs on 5-16 shooting and 1-1 from three. Brown also had 17 rebounds and a steal as well. Caitlyn Jones had 10 points on 5-10 shooting with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Unfortunately, there is not much to really be happy about from this game. No other player for the Lady Deacs scored more than 5 points. The biggest positive stat I can find from this one is that the Lady Deacs only allowed 22% shooting from three by the Blue Devils.
With only seven games remaining, its tough to see the Lady Deacs going dancing come March barring a strong run in the ACC tournament. There are still some opportunities, with UNC at home and Louisville on the road both still on the schedule. But at this point, we can safely assume the margin for error is basically zero. Up next, the Lady Deacs head to Dallas to take on SMU. The Mustangs have struggled a bit under first-year coach Adia Barnes. SMU is only 1-9 in ACC play, and 8-19 overall. Tipoff against the Mustangs in at 730pm EST on the 5th on ACC Extra.
