RICHMOND, Ky. — Wofford started strong and built an early lead to defeat Eastern Kentucky 83–77 Saturday at Baptist Health Arena. The victory moves the Terriers to 5–3, while Eastern Kentucky drops to 1–5.

Wofford controlled the pace from the opening minutes, using quick passes, crisp ball movement, and disciplined defense. They opened the second half with a 62–47 lead, their largest margin of the game. Eastern Kentucky tried to respond with fast-break points and perimeter shooting, but the Terriers absorbed the early pressure.

Throughout the first half, Wofford’s guards were active, creating open looks for Holmes and finding cutters near the basket. The team’s defensive rotations limited easy baskets for the Colonels and allowed Wofford to build a lead without letting Eastern Kentucky gain momentum.

Holmes Anchors Offense and Maintains Composure

Kahmare Holmes led the Terriers with 20 points, scoring on mid-range jumpers, drives, and clutch free throws. His scoring kept Wofford ahead whenever Eastern Kentucky attempted to mount a comeback.

Holmes also contributed defensively, disrupting passing lanes and contesting shots. His ability to control the tempo and make plays in critical moments gave Wofford confidence down the stretch. Each time Eastern Kentucky cut the lead, Holmes responded with a basket or drew a foul, reinforcing his status as the team’s offensive cornerstone.

Supporting Cast Provides Critical Contributions

Wofford received meaningful support from several other players. Guard Rex Stirling added 10 points, facilitating ball movement and helping on perimeter defense. Luke Flynn contributed 6 points and 5 rebounds, spacing the floor and grabbing key boards. Forward Cayden Vasko helped secure possessions, fighting for rebounds and providing inside scoring when needed.

The Terriers’ balance was critical in absorbing Eastern Kentucky’s second-half surge. While Holmes drew defensive attention, Stirling, Flynn, and Vasko ensured that Wofford maintained offensive flow and rebounding control. Their combined effort limited the Colonels’ second-chance opportunities and helped the team sustain its lead.

Late Rally Tests Wofford’s Composure

Eastern Kentucky narrowed the gap late in the second half, cutting the deficit to six points with under two minutes remaining. The Colonels applied pressure on both ends, forcing Wofford to make decisions under duress.

The Terriers responded with smart ball movement, defensive stops, and clutch free throws. Holmes delivered a critical basket, Flynn grabbed a rebound, and Vasko helped secure the ball on the next possession. Wofford’s ability to execute under pressure proved decisive, allowing them to withstand the Colonels’ push and maintain control until the final buzzer.

Key Moments Define the Outcome

Wofford’s largest lead of 62–47 was crucial, giving them a cushion against Eastern Kentucky’s late rally. The team’s disciplined defense and timely scoring in the closing minutes ensured the Terriers could finish strong. Their execution on free throws, rebounds, and defensive rotations preserved the lead and solidified the road win.

Holmes’ performance anchored the team, but it was Wofford’s depth and balance that made the difference. Each contribution from the supporting cast helped maintain momentum and keep the Colonels from closing the gap completely.

Road Win Highlights Depth and Confidence

This victory demonstrates Wofford’s ability to combine individual brilliance with team balance. Holmes led the scoring, but Stirling, Flynn, Vasko, and other contributors played important roles in key moments.

The Terriers showed resilience on the road, controlling rebounds, spacing the floor, and executing under pressure. Their ability to build a lead, absorb rallies, and finish strong will be essential as they head into Southern Conference play. This win provides confidence and a blueprint for success for the rest of the season.
