GREENVILLE, S.C. – Wofford built a 21-point first half lead and held on down the stretch to edge Furman, 32-25, in Southern Conference action Saturday afternoon at Paladin Stadium.

The Terriers’ Ethan Drumm connected on four touchdown passes in the first half, including strikes of 70 and 80 yards to Isaiah Scott, and built a 29-8 lead when he connected with Ivory Aikens on a 71-yard score with 14:49 remaining in the second quarter. Furman’s CJ Stokes scored from seven yards out to trim the margin to 29-15 at the half and Nathan Chapman’s 29-yard field goal pulled the Paladins within 11 points at 29-18 with 9:30 to go in the third quarter.

After Wofford’s Connor Deviney connected on a 22-yard field goal in the final minute of the third quarter to restore the Terriers’ 14-point advantage, Furman’s Connor Ackerley hit Ethan Harris on an 18-yard scoring toss with 4:47 left to trim the Wofford lead to 32-25. Furman’s defense forced a Terrier punt to give the Paladins the ball with 2:39 remaining and Ackerley marched Furman to the Terrier 23-yard line before his fourth down pass to Luke Shields fell incomplete in the end zone with 1:08 left to end the comeback.

Drumm went 14-of-21 through the air for 304 yards and four scores while Scott hauled in seven passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns. The Terriers finished with 413 yards of offense after totaling over 300 yards in the opening half.

Ackerley went 27-of-43 for 264 yards and a touchdown to lead Furman to 387 yards of offense. Ben Croasdale rushed for 93 yards on 21 carries.

Wofford (3-3, 2-2 SoCon) struck on its opening play from scrimmage with a 70-yard Drumm to Scott touchdown toss before pouncing on the football when Furman muffed the ensuing kickoff. Drumm hit Aikens on a six-yard scoring pass to extend the lead to 15-0 before Ryan Earl picked off a pass and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown to get the Paladins on the board.

Furman (2-4, 1-1 SoCon) returns to action next Saturday, October 10, when it travels to Tennessee Tech for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
