AEW Dynamite was a special sixth anniversary edition. It featured some recently returned faces, championship matches, and much more.
Multi-Man Tag Brings Ex-WWE Star To Dynamite
The first segment was a trios match where The Young Bucks and Josh Alexander faced off against Kenny Omega and Brodido. This was a stereotypical multi-man tag match for AEW. Tons of pace, reversals, and false finishes, but it’s more chaos than a wrestling match.
The babyfaces won the match, but Alexander would start to beat down Omega after the match. He was helped by Jungle Express before cutting a promo pandering to the crowd for the six-year episode. This brought the surprise return of Andrade, who attacked Omega and joined The Don Callis Family.
Championship Storylines
The next match was Orange Cassidy versus Kyle Fletcher for the TNT Championship. Cassidy has all the talent of a champion, but it’s hard to take his gimmick seriously in a title picture. His ring IQ and reversals are elite. Fletcher is certainly the better all-around talent, with strength, high-flying, and ring IQ. The finish of the match featured an unexpected heel turn from Holigram to help in the retention of the TNT Championship.
The Death Riders versus Powerhouse Hobbs, Samoa Joe, and Adam Page was next. Hangman got the pinfall for his team, but not without rubbing Joe the wrong way. Security kept them apart; could this be the next world title picture?
Toni Storm versus Tay Melo was next, and boy, was it boring. Neither one gave a full effort in the lacklustre affair. Storm and her played out gimmick cut a promo immediately after the match. She would challenge Kris Statlander to a one-on-one rematch for the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Tag Action On Dynamite
Up next was a tag match between the Gates of Agony and Blake Christian with Lee Johnson. It was close to a squash match, where Ricochet joined in on the beatdown after the match. The Hurt Syndicate made their appearance known. MVP challenged the faction to a three-on-three street fight.
Kris Statlander and Darby Allin versus Wheeler Yuta and Marina Shafir in a No-DQ match was the main event. Shafir deserves a shoutout for taking the tacks in the bare foot, and Shafir for the 450 splash. Storm came to confront Statlander after the match, with their upcoming title match made official.
