The Southern Conference had a huge weekend where the top four teams all played against each other so two teams would emerge the front runners going into the final weeks of the season. Eric Rankin’s strip-sack and run set up JoJo Crump’s rushing touchdown for what proved to be the winning points as VMI beat Furman 21-17 on Saturday for the Keydets’ first win this season.

UT Chatt 34 Western Carolina 38
Taron Dickens threw five touchdown passes, the last an 8-yard go-ahead strike to De’Andre Tamarez in the fourth quarter, and Western Carolina defeated Chattanooga 38-34 in a key Southern Conference game on Saturday.

ETSU 31 Mercer 37
Brayden Manley recovered a fumble in the end zone, Marques Thomas had a 25-yard pick-6 and Mic Wasson returned a blocked punt 20 yards for a touchdown and Mercer held on for a 37-31 win over East Tennessee State on Saturday.

Wofford 17 Samford 13
Bryce Corriston and Ryan Ingram scored rushing touchdowns, and Wofford ended a nine-game losing streak to Samford, spoiling the Bulldogs’ homecoming with a 17-13 win on Saturday.
