The news was revealed by longtime friend, partner and occasional rival Adam Copeland on Wednesday’s Dynamite moments before he announced his intentions to retire in 2027.
Copeland said that during the three-way ladder match for the titles in Chicago, Cage was thrown into a ladder five minutes into the match where he broke three ribs, one of which was broken in three places. He also suffered a collapsed lung.
Wishing @Christian4Peeps a speedy recovery ❤️🩹

Copeland noted that despite the injuries, Cage was still reaching for the titles while up on the ladder at the end of the match because of his work ethic and for the fans.
There was no announced timetable for the 52-year-old’s return. He has been in AEW since early-2021 and is a former AEW World Tag Team Champion, Trios Champion, and two-time TNT Champion.
