COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 4 Wake Forest field hockey team fell to No. 5 Maryland on Sunday afternoon. Both teams were held scoreless through three quarters.

Wake recorded five shots in the first half, but could not find the back of the cage
In a back-and-forth defensive battle, Maryland scored off a penalty corner with 4:20 to play in the match

“Great opportunity for both teams to come in early in the season and compete at this tempo. I think it was everything that both teams anticipated. I’m incredibly proud of Wake Forest this weekend, despite splitting it. Both teams created some great opportunities, and we were unfortunately unable to convert on our chances. We’ll take a look at that and continue to improve. What I am most proud of is the fact that we know that we have a solid squad and we know there are areas that we can improve upon and we will improve upon. We are looking forward to continuing our development so that we can have a different outcome.”
The Deacs will begin conference play on Friday, September 25th at 5 p.m. against No. 8 Duke.
