LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia – The Gwinnett Stripers (24-27, 62-63) rode a three-run first inning and two home runs by Luke Williams to a 7-2 victory in the series finale against the Durham Bulls (30-20, 58-67) on Sunday afternoon at Gwinnett Field. Durham won the series 4-2.

Decisive Plays: A David McCabe two-run double got things going in the first inning. He then scored on an RBI single by Lizandro Espinoza to make it 3-0 Stripers. Williams added to the lead with a solo homer (8) in the fifth for a 4-0 advantage. Durham cut the Gwinnett lead in half with a two-run shot from Logan Davidson (12) in the seventh to make it 4-2. In the bottom of the seventh, Williams crushed a two-run blast (9) for his second homer of the afternoon, getting the two runs right back. Gwinnett added one more in the eighth as Brett Wisely took home on a double steal with Espinoza for a 7-2 lead. Ian Hamilton closed the door in a non-save ninth.

Key Contributors: Williams (2-for-3, 2 homers, 3 RBIs) and McCabe (1-for-4, double, 2 RBIs) each had multi-RBI games, while Espinoza added a multi-hit, multi-steal effort (2-for-4, RBI, 3 steals). Rehabbing Atlanta Braves’ right-hander Reynaldo Lopez started and tossed 4.0 innings (3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 SO) in a no-decision. Former Bull Duncan Davitt (W, 5-3) struck out two over 1.0 inning in relief. For Durham, Davidson (1-for-3, homer, 2 RBIs) drove in both runs.

Noteworthy: The Stripers won for just the fifth time on a Sunday this season, improving to 5-15. Williams’ two-homer game was the first multi-homer performance of his 11-year professional career (978th game). He’s just the third Striper with two homers in a game this season, joining Rowdy Tellez (April 3 at Round Rock) and DaShawn Keirsey Jr. (May 3 at Charlotte).
