Greenville, S.C. – Olivia Shaw and Katie Campbell combined to go 5-for-7 with nine RBI to power Samford to a 17-1 victory Sunday afternoon and three-games Southern Conference softball series sweep of Furman at Pepsi Stadium.

The Bulldogs (22-26, 11-4 SoCon) clubbed five home runs in the series finale and took advantage of three Furman errors to plate 10 unearned runs.

Brandy Phillips and Sydnie Ferrant blasted two-run homers in the top of the first to stake the Bulldogs to a 4-0 lead before Samford added five runs in the top of the second to extend its lead to 9-0. A pair of sacrifice flies, a two-run home run from Campbell, and an infield single from Brooke Wildes accounted for the scoring in the five-run frame.

Furman’s Rachel Hawkins doubled and scored on Christina McCoy’s infield single to get the Paladins on the board in the bottom of the second, but Shaw answered in the top of the third with a two-run clout to center field to push the Samford lead to 11-1. The Bulldogs concluded the scoring with six unearned runs in the top of the fourth inning, capped by Campbell’s three-run round tripper to straightaway center field.
Shaw finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBI while Campbell went 3-for-4 with two homers and five driven in. Ferrant posted a 2-for-2 day at the plate with three RBI and Addison Smith added a double and a triple.

Sara Bond worked three innings allowing just a run on two hits to earn the victory in the circle. She improved to 5-4 on the season.
Freshman Kristyn Embler (7-12) took the loss for Furman after surrendering eight runs, five earned, on six hits over 1.1 innings of work.

Furman (11-35, 3-12 SoCon) travels to Atlanta, Ga., to face Georgia Tech in its final non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ACC Network Xtra.
