NFL Week 6 2026 Trends: Close Games and Late Finishes
This season is on pace to be one of the tightest in league history.
- Record clutch finishes: There have been 31 games with a game-winning score in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or in overtime, the most through Week 6 in NFL history. Arizona, Buffalo, Cleveland, Denver, Houston, Pittsburgh and Tennessee each recorded one in Week 6.
- One-score games: Eleven Week 6 games were within eight points in the fourth quarter, and 10 were decided by eight points or less.
- Near-record margins: The season has seen 56 games decided by eight or fewer points, the second-most through Week 6 all-time, behind only 2022 (57).
Comeback Wins: Browns, Saints, Steelers and Titans Rally
Four teams overcame deficits of 10 or more points to win in Week 6: Cleveland, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Tennessee. The Browns, Steelers and Titans all did it in the second half.
Furthermore, that brings the season total to 12 games with a second-half comeback from 10 or more points. Only three seasons have had more through Week 6: 1989 (14), 2011 (13) and 2022 (13).
Chiefs Improve to 5-0 as Kenneth Walker Stays Hot
Kansas City beat the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6 to move to 5-0. It is the fifth time Andy Reid’s teams have opened 5-0 since he was hired in 2013, making him the third head coach to do so in six seasons, alongside Hall of Famers George Halas (10 seasons) and Paul Brown (six).
Furthermore, running back Kenneth Walker rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns, and the numbers keep stacking up:
- He is the third player in the Super Bowl era with at least two touchdowns in four of his team’s first five games, joining Emerson Boozer (1967) and Calvin Johnson (2011).
- With 760 scrimmage yards and eight scrimmage touchdowns, he is the sixth player to reach 750 and eight in his first five games, joining Jim Brown, Eric Dickerson, Marshall Faulk, Emmitt Smith and Priest Holmes.
- As a result, he forced seven missed tackles in Week 6 and leads the NFL with 52.
Steelers Beat Buccaneers in OT: Aaron Rodgers and Jalen Ramsey Shine
Pittsburgh won 26-19 in overtime at Tampa Bay. Aaron Rodgers threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns, and cornerback Jalen Ramsey had 10 tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks.
- Rodgers’ milestone: He now has 255 career games with a touchdown pass, including the playoffs, passing Peyton Manning (254) for fourth-most in NFL history. Only Tom Brady (333), Brett Favre (271) and Drew Brees (268) have more.
- Ramsey’s rare line: He is the first defensive back since 2000 with at least 10 tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks in a game.
Bears Top Falcons as Caleb Williams Hits 50 Touchdown Passes
Chicago won 31-23 at Atlanta. In addition, Caleb Williams threw for 305 yards and reached his 50th career touchdown pass. With only 14 interceptions at that point, he is the third quarterback with fewer than 15 interceptions at his 50th touchdown pass, joining Lamar Jackson (10) and Patrick Mahomes (13).
Defensive back Kyler Gordon tallied three sacks and two forced fumbles. He was the first DB since 2000 to accomplish both in a single game.
More Week 6 Record Performances
- Trey McBride, Cardinals: Seven catches for 53 yards in Arizona’s 18-16 win at the Rams. He is the first player in NFL history with seven or more receptions in each of his team’s first six games. Additionally, his 49 catches lead tight ends through six games, surpassing Zach Ertz’s 48 in 2018.
- Travis Hunter, Jaguars: He had a seven-yard touchdown catch and an interception. That achievement follows Brian Dawkins in 2002 and Roy Green in 1981.
- Malik Nabers, Giants: Twelve catches for 165 yards in his 25th career game. However, he has 168 career receptions, second-most through 25 games behind Odell Beckham Jr. (176). He is the third player with 10-plus catches in five of his 25 games, with Brock Bowers and Lionel Taylor.
- Alvin Kamara, Saints: A touchdown catch in New Orleans’ 34-27 win at the Giants. He became the sixth player with 5,000 career rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards, joining Marcus Allen, Marshall Faulk, Lenny Moore, Tiki Barber and Christian McCaffrey.
- Additionally, Derrick Henry, Ravens: 58 rushing yards, making him the fourth back with 4,000+ rushing yards for two teams.
- Calais Campbell, Ravens: At 40 years and 47 days old, he recorded his first sack of the season. Since 1982, he is the third player over 40 to record a sack. He is the second, after Bruce Smith, to record a sack in 18 seasons.
