The Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament is well underway. In fact, the finals are growing ever nearer. The latest episode of AEW Collision determined the second finalist to face Mercedes Mone at Forbidden Door.
Athena Vs. Maya World – Owen Hart Semifinals
The Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion, “The Fallen Goddess” Athena, faced off with Maya World, who upset Skye Blue to get here after tragically losing her brother. World proved early in this one that she has high-end technical chain-wrestling with Athena.
World continued to show that she could be in this position, as the two went back and forth in a physical affair. Athena struck a nerve by mentioning her opponent’s late brother, whose death was non-fictional. This led to an existing false finish that had the crowd on their feet.
World shocked the universe moment later, rolling up the longest reigning Ring of Honor champion for the win. Athena understandably broke character post-match, embracing her opponent in an emotional moment.
Mone came to congratulate her opponent in the finals of the Owen. Just when it felt the show would end in a moment of support, the two veterans blindsided the up-and-comer, standing over her lifeless body to put Collision off the air.
In Conclusion
It’s official, Mone and World will face off in the finals of the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. The men’s final was already determined before Collision. “The Ariel Assassin” Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland will clash in that final. The winners of each will be awarded a guaranteed title shot and the upcoming AEW PPV, All In.
