The Paladins began the season with a neutral‑site loss to High Point and a challenging schedule that forced introspection and growth from the first whistle. Throughout November and December, Furman worked to find its identity, learning that cohesion and resilience would be its greatest strengths.
Freshman Alex Wilkins emerged as a driving force, using his scoring flair and court vision to ignite the offense. Cooper Bowser’s presence inside gave Furman an anchor in the paint on both ends of the floor, providing stability and toughness that others could build around. Beyond the stars, every player on the roster grew into a meaningful contributor.
Asa Thomas’s shooting and energy lifted the team during tight stretches, while Charles Johnston’s rebounding and physicality gave Furman an edge when it mattered most. Senior Tom House handled a move from starter to key bench contributor with one of the classiest journeys of the year — embracing his role, mentoring younger teammates, and providing scoring and composure when Furman needed it most. Weeks of preparation, close games, and electrifying finishes made it clear: this arena breathed energy into the Paladins.
Inside that cauldron, the players grew confident in their roles and in each other. Wilkins’ deep threes would send crowds into a frenzy, Bowser’s interior play would stifle opposing offenses, and every timely defensive stop or hustle rebound drew louder responses from the capacity crowd. Coach Bob Richey’s leadership — patient, purposeful, and centered on development — helped build a culture where each player felt trusted and ready when called upon.
