MIAMI – Timely hitting paved the way for the Wake Forest baseball team (24-12, 9-8 ACC) to even the series against Miami (26-9, 7-7 ACC) as the Demon Deacons used a trio of two-out RBIs and a dominant performance from Troy Dressler to grab a 3-1 victory on Saturday evening at Mark Light Field.

Sophomore starting pitcher Troy Dressler was sensational on the mound for the Demon Deacons, recording four strikeouts while allowing just two hits in 6.0 scoreless innings, marking the longest outing of his career. The Mifflinburg, Pa., native has now totaled 53 strikeouts this season, with 32 of them coming in his last five appearances.

FROM COACH WALTER
“Today was kind of a carbon copy of yesterday’s game, but we got the timely hits. Yesterday, they got the timely hits. Both teams pitched the ball really well today, and with the wind blowing in like this, runs are tough to come by. I’m really proud of our guys. [Troy] Dressler was phenomenal. Evan Jones was really good. [I’d] like to see him eliminate a couple of those walks. I’m really proud of Will Ray coming in there and getting that last big out. That’s as good as I’ve ever seen Will Ray. I wanted to have Ray again for tomorrow, so I didn’t want to extend him too much. Jones is such a great matchup for right-handed hitters, so it was an easy decision to leave him in there. When those lefties came back around, I thought about Rhys Bowie in that situation, but again, Rhys is going to give us some long innings tomorrow if we need it. We’ve got [Blake] Morningstar for length tomorrow, so we’ve got a locked and loaded bullpen ready to go tomorrow. We’ve just got to get in their bullpen a little sooner.” – Head Coach Tom Walter
