
The Furman Paladins (1-0. 0-0 SoCon) welcome the Presbyterian Blue Hose (1-0) to Paladins Stadium for a series that has not played since 2014. The Paladins are coming off a huge win last week versus William and Mary 23-21, and Presbyterian was able to get a huge win over SoCon Champion from last year Mercer 15-10.

The Paladins once again start the game with a huge turnover when Furman #21 Billy Lewis intercepts the ball and then the offense takes the ball and gets a touchdown when #6 Gavin Hall runs it in from 13 yards. The Paladins take the early lead 7-0 over the Blue Hose of PC here in front of a great crowd. PC gets the ball back yet is not able to get anywhere and has to punt the ball back to Furman, as the defense is creating havoc to the PC wide receivers.

Furman gets the ball back and is able to get down to the 43-yard line but is stopped and punts away and PC starts off at the 25-yard line and runs it all the way down to the 19-yard line and they are in the red zone. PC passes to the end zone and gets the touchdown #0 Cincere Gill, and we have a tie game with 4:15 left in the 1st quarter 7-7.

Furman takes the ball and heads down the field and is now at the PC 30-yard line with under a minute to go in the first quarter. The Paladins run the clock out and its 2nd down from the 30-yard line. The Paladins was able to rush 13 times for 65 yards and pass 8 times for 45 yards. PC was able to generate 106 yards of total offense in the first quarter on the paladins.

Furman takes the ball and gets in the red zone and is on the 5-yard line first and goal and its touchdown #6 Gavin Hall and its 14-7 Paladins over the Blue Hose of PC with 13;21 left in the second quarter. That was the second touchdown of the day for Gavin a sophomore for the Paladins.

The Blue Hose take the ball back but are unable to get a great drive going and have to punt away to the Paladins who take over at the 41-yard line. Furman quickly hits a pass down field and now at the PC 31-yard line. The Paladins then get another first down at the 21-yard line. Trey Hedden hits #9 Ja’Keith Hamilton and Furman leads now 21-7 with 9 minutes left in the game.

The Paladins then get the ball and march right down the field and get a touchdown when Trey Hedden hits Ja’Keith Hamilton and its 28-7 Furman with the lead with 5 minutes left in the game. The Paladins then kick the ball off and hold PC to just a few plays and the ball is back to Furman starting at their 44-yard line. Trey Hedden gets his pass tipped and its intercepted and PC takes over at the Furman 41-yard line with just over 2 minutes left in the game. PC hits a big pass which takes them down to the 17-yard line with a timeout on the field.

PC then gets a touchdown play and its now 28-14 and the Blue Hose are right back in the game and kick off from the 50-yard line and Furman takes over and gets the ball and is now at their own 43-yard line. We have just over a minute to go and the Paladins throw a huge pass into double coverage and its incomplete. The Paladins are unable to get the first down and there is 50 seconds left in the half. PC will take over at the 12-yard line, and just over 30 seconds left in the game. Furman gets a huge tackle for a loss to end the half.

The halftime numbers for Furman are 19 carries for 71 yards, and 21-24-1 interception and 203 yards. Furman had 43 plays for 274 yards and held the ball over 18 minutes in the half. Furman gets the ball back first in the 3rd quarter and heads right down the field with several great pass plays by Trey Hedden and a couple clutch running plays and is now at the 31-yard line of PC. Trey Hedden gets nailed and the ball falls into the hands of PC for a interception. The Paladins on the first play for PC #21 Billy Lewis gets yet another interception and runs back to the 13-yard line. Furman gets the ball and after two plays for a loss, they get back to the 16-yard line and kick a field with 9:43 left in the 3rd quarter Paladins lead 31-14.

PC gets the ball at the 25-yard line after a touch back and begins marching down the field and get to the 50-yard line, and there is flags on the play for targeting so we are on hold for instant replay. The ruling is pass complete but no targeting on Furman, we are back to PC getting a couple yards on 1st down. Furman #19 injured on the play and PC keeps on getting plays on Furman and is now at the 21-yard line. The Blue Hose rush the ball all the way to the Furman 3-yard line and its 1st and goal. The Blue Hose gets the touchdown at 5:10 left in the third quarter and the score is 31-21 as PC is not out of this game yet.

Furman is unable to get the ball anywhere and has to punt away and PC gets the ball all the way up to the 46-yard line. PC hits a huge first down pass and is now at the Furman 37-yard line. Since halftime PC has found a way to get the ball to their play makers and stop the Furman offense. PC is now in the redzone at the Furman 10-yard line, yet Furman gets a huge loss to PC, and the ball is at the 15-yard line, and we head to the 4th quarter.

PC is now at 3rd and goal at the 15-yard line, and they throw an incomplete pass, and the field goal team comes out and they miss the kick, so Furman takes over at the 20-yard line with just over 14 minutes left in the game up by 10 points. The Paladins take the ball and do nothing with it and actually go backwards after a holding call. The fortunes are becoming that of PC since halftime. The Paladins kick the ball off and PC will take the ball over with 13:04 left in the game at the 45-yard line down 31-21 with lightening in the area we are being told. PC gets a great pass down the field and gets to the 24-yard line of Furman, and the Paladins are in deep trouble on defense at the moment.

Furman gets a interception on defense as #1 Taylen Blaylock gets a huge grab and the Paladins get the ball at the 31-yard line and its first down. The offense has struggled in the second half and need to give a defense a break on this series. Furman ends up having to punt away with 8:55 left in the gamer and PC gets the ball on the 45-yard line after a shanked punt. PC once again is taking the ball right down the field on Furman now at the Furman 41-yard line. The Blue Hose with yet another huge catch and is now at the 29-yard line, then the next play run to the Furman 13-yard line and they are in the redzone. We go to a lightening delay of 30 minutes before we can return as the stadium is now being asked to clear out.

We have restarted the game, and PC has scored a field goal when Furman held them for 2 plays. The score now is 31-24 Paladins still in the lead with 6:25 left in the game. Furman gets the ball back deep in its own side of the field and fumbles the ball and PC picks up the ball and starts on the 12-yard line of Furman and on the first play gets a touchdown and we have a tie game. PC has been lights out on defense in the second half as Furman has fell apart in many ways, it’s now tied 31-31 with 4:38 left in the game. The Paladins get the ball and yet fall to turn over on downs and must punt away and PC takes over on the 29=yard line. We have a timeout here in Furman as PC is now at midfield and just under two minutes left on the clock.

Furman gets the ball first at the 25-yard line here in overtime, they get a first done when Trey hits Hester for a slant pass inside to the 14-yard line. Then #28 for Furman gets the ball down to the one-yard line Furman scores a touchdown and puts the pressure on PC to score one in response. Furman is up now 38-31 with PC now having a chance to score or if Furman holds, we go to double overtime. PC scores in two plays a touchdown and is now going for it to win the game. Here we go folks it’s for the game and Furman lets PC catch the ball for the win, but the Blue Hose have to wait for a replay. Replay says it’s a touchdown and PC wins thew game in overtime 39-38 over Furman.
