Darby Allin AEW Dynamite
The first AEW Dynamite after Forbidden Door had plenty of carry-over and unfinished business. New champs, whining heels, and physical matches in store, let’s follow up the episode.
First Promo And Match Of Dynamite
Dynamite opened with FTR and Big Stoke cutting a promo in the ring for a promo. After getting after the referee they blamed for their recent lost, Cope and Christian Cage came to the risk, and total mayhem ensued. FTR will face the two in Toronto at All Out.
The first match saw Jon Moxley taking on the young, talented, Daniel Garcia. This was a physical contest that went both ways, as Mox continues to make newer talent look great since dropping the title. The former champion did pull out the victory on this night, but let his opponent get his stuff in and look strong, even selling hurt long after the bell.
Dynamite Women
Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne versus Kris Statlander and Harley Cameron was next. The fact Cameron continues to get time on the companies biggest television product is unfathomable. Statlander tapped out Ford in a filler match.
Not even in a respectable heel way, Mercedes Mone is ruining the women’s division and making a mockery of herself. She’s carrying ceremonial titles around the world to make herself feel better, when the fans know she has weaseled her way into creative control from her ex-WWE days. Just don’t ask her to admit she’s not as large as that company. Rennee Pequet and Mone had a celebration/interview in the ring. Outside of a brief mention of Alex Windsor, this segment was simply to pump the air on the hollow-headed TBS Champion.
The Don Callis Family
The next match was The Don Callis Family versus JetSpeed and Brodido. This had various types of entertaining spots, including stiff work, high flying, slick reversals and more. The faction would prove too tough for the new tag champions and friends to conquer this night, as Callis continues to push and imporve his army.
The World Heavyweight Champion, Adam Page, was in the ring for a promo in the next segment. He opened with a heartfelt get well soon message for Will Ospreay, who will be missed by fans and wrestlers worldwide, undoubtably one of the best to ever do it. Hangman then moved his focus to MJF, who he beat at Forbidden Door last week, but who still holds a contract for a title opportunity.
Don Callis and a few of his heavy-hitters came to the ring, making their intentions of bringing the title to the family clear. JetSpeed did their best, but were still outnumbered and out-gunned. This brought Kenny Omega out to the ring, delivering snap-dragon suplexes to everyone.
The Opps Vs. Ricochet & Gates Of Agony
For all of the hate Ricochet get’s for his promo’s and aura, the company is booking his skillset perfectly. He now carries the tag team around as backup and may be underappreciated. His work has gotten stiffer since the heel-turn as well. The match had great physicality, reversals, and false finishes both ways. It seemed Ricochet had the victory in place, but a surprise appearance from MVP, who smacked Ricochet on the top rope with his cane, allowed The Opps to pick up the win. The Hurt Syndicate stormed the ring to fight the remaining member’s of Ricochet’s team, as he rolled around the ring in a daze.
Dynamite Main Event – Claudio Castoagnoli Vs. Darby (Falls Count Anywhere)
Allen started this one during the entrance. Claduio, making his normal entrance from the outside, was jumped by his opponent, from a ledge above. The vicious fight was on, Castoanoli handling the smaller man easily early on, smashing him into various objects as he drug him in the building. Darby took some crazy bumps, including being launched from above his opponent’s head in the ring, crashing into the announce table and guard rail, stil managing to kick out. Just as the underdog started to mount a comeback, the Deathrider superplexed him onto a pile of chairs and slammed in through a corner-leaning table.
Incredible false finishes continued both ways, but Darby was ultimately victorious, despite being beat senseless all night. The Deathriders stormed the ring and jumped Allen further after the match. He would scurry out the emergency exit to escape the beatdown and to end this week’s Dynamite.
