Samoa Joe celebrates winning the AEW World Trios Championship on Dynamite

AEW Dynamite opened this week with an eight-man tag match. Mark Briscoe, Kevin Knight, Mike Bailey, and Kenny Omega vs. Ricochet, The Young Bucks, and Kazuchika Okada. This was a gimmick match, with bald spots, friendly fire, and cringeworthy repeated misses from all contestants consecutively.
They executed a few entertaining high spots, but the match lacked substance. They felt the need to have all eight men in the ring simultaneously many times. Omega and Bailey stood out the most in a positive light, but Okada obtained the pinfall victory for his team.
AEW Championship Storylines
The World Trios Champions, The Opps, were introduced to face everybody’s favourite “already in the ring.” Powerhouse Hobbs ended up with the pinfall victory for his team in this squash match. The Deathriders blindsided The Opps after the match. Samoe Joe has a scheduled world title match with Jon Moxley, and The Opps won the trios titles from their rivalry faction. After the Deathriders were powdered, Joe took to the mic to turn their match into a steel cage match.
Miyu Yamashita versus Toni Storm was next. Yamashita showed some entertaining strikes, but otherwise a lacklustre match. Storm obtained the expected victory after hitting her piledriver finisher. Mercedes Mone and Jamie Hayter came down the ramp to announce their intentions of taking Storm’s world title, only to fight with each other.
MJF And The Hurt Business On AEW Dynamite
The Hurt Business once again came to the ring to address the storyline with MJF. They invited MJF back out for another vote. Once again, Lashley was the reason for the rejection into the group. Lashley threw a frustrated MJF into the corner, telling him to prove himself by hurting people.
The Patriarchy
Nick Wayne defended his ROH TV Championship against Jay Lethal. It was an entertaining match, but it could have used some false finishes. The champion retained via pinfall from a fisherman’s buster.
Dynamite Main Event
Kyle Fletcher and Adam Page faced off to determine Will Ospreay’s opponent in the final of the Owen. It was a physical back-and-forth match, but it felt long. Other than that, it was an entertaining match with believable false finishes both ways. Page hit a beautiful moonsault to the floor and set him up for his Buck Shot lariat. Fletcher distracted the referee and hit his opponent with a low blow. Great misdirect on the finish to the greasy heel move. Hangman eventually hit the lariet to get a well-fought victory.
