This week’s AEW Dynamite was packed with title matches and championship storylines. From a street fight to a couple of number-one contender matches, Dynamite is on a roll leading up to the Dynasty PPV.
AEW Championship Storylines
Dynamite opened with Mark Davis, Orange Cassidy, Mike Bailey, and Ricochet, facing off in a four-way match. Bailey stood out early with his pace and striking. David has his strength on display with multiple powerbombs and stiff chops. This match had great spots and athleticism but could have used some believable false finishes. The finish was odd, with Bailey rolling up Davis, and Ricochet jumping in on the pin from the ropes. With an International Championship opportunity on the line, the referee declared it a triple threat.
Mercedes Mone defended her TBS Championship against Billie Starkz. This was forced and pointless, with only one possible outcome. There were numerous dangerous spots, including a slam in the corner. Starkz was going for a move off the top in the corner but put Mone’s head in danger. Mone won the match via tapout.
Street Fight
Cope and Jon Moxley had a street fight for the World Heavyweight Championship, and their brawl started in the back. Things got more interesting when Cope pulled out a board with nails, eventually getting to strike Moxley with it. Cope then suplexed Moxley on top of the weapon, and the nails were stuck in his back, even when he stood up. The rest of the Deathriders would join the match, and there wasn’t anything the referee could do.
With Cope set up for a conchairto, The Deathriders were interrupted by FTR. With the odds evened out, Cope speared Moxley through a table in the corner. After frantic action, including Willow Nightingale fighting Marina Shafir, Moxley retained the title via submission. Moxley will defend the championship against Swerve Strickland at the upcoming PPV, Dynasty. After the match, Dax Harwood refused to help Cope get up, causing friction in the group of friends.
Final Two Matches Of Dynamite
The next match was AR Fox versus Will Ospreay. Both men showed off their high-flying capabilities, but this was another match in which it felt safe to presume the winner. Ospreay wins via pinfall.
The main event of Dynamite was Megan Bayne versus Kris Statlander. With Women’s World Champion Toni Storm at ringside, there was a title shot on the line. It was a physical match between two of the strongest women on the roster. Penelope Ford assisted Bayne multiple times, resulting in the referee kicking her from the ringside. The scoop slams and power bombs were laid in thick. At one point, Bayne first slammed Statlander into Toni Storm, before smacking her on the floor and throwing her back in the ring. After Bayne secured the victory, she was in a fight with Storm. The two will face off at Dynasty.
