The Furman Paladins Men’s Basketball (16-14, 10-7 SoCon) come into the finale men’s basketball game in what is the old version of Timmons arena versus the Mercer Bears (14-16, 7-10 SoCon) in hopes of getting its tourney spot settled and also giving the home team fans a great last men’s game at Furman today.

Furman will be either the 4 or 5 seed facing either Wofford or Western Carolina in Asheville. Sothern Conference tourney starts March 8th-11th in Asheville and Furman Joust will be on hand with Carlito and Jarred Jackson, Justin Grice, and myself bringing you the coverage.

The Furman men come out in honor of #97 #StanfieldStrong the Furman DL that passed away tragically last month. it’s a great turnout for the last men’s game in Timmons area as it sits now. They are going to be renovating it all next year starting after today’s men’s and women’s game.

Media timeout and Furman is still behind in the game, 28-21 to the Bears of Mercer. We come to another timeout and after two huge 3-point shots Furman is now within 5 points 27-32 to Mercer with 1:50 left in the half. The fans are electric in the arena today with a sellout. Cooper Bowser has a huge block on a full court lob and Furman is really getting back into the game.

Furman is now within 3 points and a foul on Mercer Furman takes the ball and misses a 3 pointer and Mercer has the ball last and gets a shot in and we go to halftime Furman down 34-29. Halftime stats are as follows with Furman 16 points in the paint, 9 points off the bench, 7 points second chance, and 2 points off turnovers. Marcus Foster leads with 7 points and 7 rebounds, PJay Smith with 5 points and 3 rebounds. Media timeout and Furman is still down 43-33 to the Mercer Bears but Cooper Bowser with a huge slam dunk right before the timeout.

media timeout 78-72 with Furman getting the ball, 49 seconds left in the game. PJay Smith hits a huge 3 point play and its now 78-75 as we go to a timeout. Furman is going to lose this game after giving a great comeback try versus Mercer and the score will be 82-75. Furman will be a 5 seed going into the SoCon tourney!
