Furman Paladins Women’s Basketball Faces ETSU in Old Timmons Arena Final Game

Timmons arena has its final game of the day and for a year and a half as both basketball teams will be playing in different spots next year, with the men playing at the Bons Secure Arena and the ladies going to North Greenville University for their games. Furman Paladins Women’s team (14-15, 4-9 SoCon) face off with the ETSU Buccaneers (18-10, 7-6 SoCon) to prepare for next week’s SoCon tournament in Asheville.

Its Senior night and all four of the ladies will start tonight, and we are ready to get started here at Timmons and ETSU is out, and we are at the jump off, and Furman gets it, and both teams miss on the first possession. We are our first scores and its now 3-2 with 7:26 left in the first period. Media Timeout and we have a ETSU lead over Furman with 4:28 left in the first period. Furman at this point has 2 points on turnovers, 4 points in the paint, and 2 points each from the bench and second chance points.

We come to the end of the first period and Furman leads 17-14 and the stats we have are 7 points off turnovers, 8 points in the paint, 4 points off second chance, and 9 points off the bench. Jada Session leads scorers with 8 points and 3 rebounds, Kate Johnson 4 points and 3 rebounds.

Furman heads into the timeout down 26-25 with 5:29 left in the half. The stats are 17 points off the bench, and 10 points in the paint, shooting 36% FG, 50% from 3-point range, and 100% from the line. Sydney Ryan leads scorers with 9 points. and Jada Session has 8 points and 3 rebounds. We come to the end of the half and the Bucs have a lead over the Paladins 37-30, the stats heading into halftime for Furman are 20 points off the bench, 10 points in the paint, 7 points off turnovers, 5 second chance points, FG 32%, 3-point range 33%, and 87% from the Ft Line. We come to another timeout with 7:58 in the 3rd period, the Paladins are trailing 39-30 with Jada Session still leading the team with 10 points. The mental mistakes are really costing the team, but they are playing strong and not giving up. Furman is under another media timeout; the Paladins are losing to the Bucs 35-43 with 4:46 left in the 3rd quarter. Furman are still down with 43 seconds left in the 3rd period 46-38 to the Bucs. We head into the fourth quarter with Furman still down by 8 points, and with game becoming a very physical matchup here at the end its anybody’s game. Furman with 5 minutes left ties the game 51-51 and the fans are really getting rowdy now. Furman is ready to pull off the upset in the last game of this storied arena till it reopens in a little over a year. Furman stats are 31 points off the bench, 16 points in the paint, 9 points off turnovers, and 7 points off second chance. Three players are in double figures with Sydney Ryan and Jada Session leading with 12 points and Kat Johnson with 11 points.

Kate Johnson with a huge rejection and we the Paladins get the ball back with 4 minutes left. We have another timeout, and the score is 53-51 ETSU leading with 3:46 left in the game. Furman takes its first lead with 2:27 left in the game 57-55 after two three-point shots by Walters and Ryan. Tate Walters has finally come out of her shell in the last quarter and its 61-58. Timeout with 46 seconds left in the game, Furman ball and its 61-59 and the fans are up on their feet. Tate Walters hits a huge shot with 1 second left on the shot clock, 64-59 Furman in the lead with 16 seconds left in the game. The Lady Paladins are out to end the last night in the old Timmons Arena with a huge win!
