The Anderson Trojans earned a 79-52 win over Newberry College (11-11, 5-10 SAC) on Wednesday night in the team’s Black History Month Celebration. The lead stayed with Anderson for the entire game, and they move to 10-11 overall and 6-9 in South Atlantic Conference play with the win. The two teams were tied at seventh place in the SAC prior to tonight’s contest.

Carson-Newman (16-5, 12-3 SAC) aims to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon as it visits Anderson for a South Atlantic Conference contest at 2:00 p.m. Carson-Newman suffered its fifth setback of the year on Wednesday, losing to UVA Wise 83-70. Carson-Newman never led in the contest. It’s the first time C-N has not led in a regular season game since November 27, 2016, at Columbus State. Heading into that matchup, C-N had won six of its past seven road games. Overall, this season, the Lady Eagles are 6-4 in road matchups and 5-3 in road conference games.

The Eagles start off strong and quickly jump out to the lead in the game over the Trojans. The Trojans come out making several key miss passes and shots are not on target. The Trojans keep battling and get back in the game versus the Eagles and by the end of the first period it’s closer than expected at 22-15 Eagles leading.

The second period the Trojans keep it close as Ciara Harris is once again leading the charge as the Eagles keep the Trojans at bay. The Trojans at halftime are only down 47-38, as Harris has 13 points and the Eagles Caroline Hill has 13 points to lead their teams as we get ready for the third period.

The third period the Trojans come out fired up and are getting back in the game. Kyla Cain gets in on the action now with 15 points, as Harris now has 22 points. The trojans close the gap and actually tie the game at 62-62, before the Eagles get two huge baskets. The Trojans don’t give up and at the end of the period its 67-65 as we head to the 4th period of the game. Jennifer Sullivan has 24 points for the Eagles, as Caroline Hill has 16 points.

The Trojans at the media time out with 7:40 left in the game are down 70-69 and are not going to let the Eagles take off from the court with a win. At the 5:51 mark the Trojans take their first lead as #4 Ashley Hill drains a bucket and its 73-72. The fans are now into the game huge for the Trojans. The Trojans with 3 minutes left get a huge basket and a foul and its now 78-74 Trojans in the lead. The Eagles are now the ones missing huge baskets and Anderson is trying to run down the clock and get another huge basket 80-74. Anderson with under two minutes is just running that clock keeping the ball away from Carson-Newman. we have 26 seconds left in the game and its 82-74 Trojans as Harris hits two huge foul shots to almost seal this game for the Lady Trojans. Ciara Harris has 24 points, and Kyla Cain has 20 points for the Trojans. The Trojans would go on to win this game 84-76.
