The Anderson Trojans Men’s Basketball (19-1, 13-1 SAC) welcome to Abney Athletic Center the Newberry Wolves in the second half of a double header night where the Lady Trojans got the victory leaving the men to sweep the series.
Anderson University Men’s Basketball improves to 13-1 in conference play after defeating conference opponent Mars Hill in a 75-66 victory on the road Friday afternoon.

“Wasn’t always perfect but it was done our way.” said Head Coach Jimmie Williams. The first half saw steady back-and-forth action with neither team gaining separation. The lead changed hand throughout before Anderson took charge with six minutes left in the opening half. The Black and Gold remained steady with a 10-point edge over Mars Hill with many attempts by the Lions to close the gap during the final half of the contest.
Newberry College came up short in a 79-61 matchup at UVA Wise on Friday, moving to 10-10 overall and 6-8 in the SAC, while UVA Wise improved to 17-5 overall and 10-4 in conference play. The Wolves trailed 42-32 at halftime but kept battling in the second half. Drake Downs led Newberry with 17 points, supported by Malakhi Stremlow with 14 and Kayzzin McDowell with 11. Newberry’s up-tempo style generated 16 fast-break points, keeping the team competitive throughout the game. The bench added 17 points, showing the depth and versatility of the team.

The Trojans come out hot versus the Wolves at the start of the game and build a 23-19 lead with just over 7 minutes left in the first half of play in the game. Malachi Reeves leads the Trojans with 7 points along with Osmar Garcia, with Rashawn Inglemon with 6 points. The Wolves though will not go away and before halftime make a run and as the whistle blows its 37-30 Trojans in the lead. The Trojans are led by Dallas Jones #5 who has 11 points, followed by Malachi Reeves with 7 points in the game. The Wolves are led by Drake Downs 15 points and has dominated the paint in the game.

The Second half the Trojans look to extend its 7-point lead and after 6 minutes its 48-43, with the Trojans blowing a 10-point lead after the first 3 minutes. The Trojans have slowly gone cold from the arch, and the Wolves are trying to get back in this game and stun the sellout crowd. The Trojans pick it up fast at the 13-minute mark and score two huge three pointers, and then a huge foul underneath by Newberry gives Anderson more energy for the crowd. The Trojans make the basket and its now 56-43 with 12 minutes left in the game. The fans have really come to their feet as the Trojans are on a tear right before the media timeout.

The Wolves with 7 minutes left are trying to cut into the Trojans 59-50 lead, but the Trojans are staying out front. A media timeout gives everyone a rest as the Trojans with 5:41 lead 61-52. Both teams are chippy and the refs are trying to keep it under control. The Trojans now with 3:34 left in the game are ahead 64-53 and time is now the enemy of the Wolves. Both teams are in the bonus on fouls, as it’s a battle at the FT line with the Wolves holding the edge in the game. Rashawn Inglemon hits a huge 3 pointer as the shot clock goes off and its 67-54. It is under two minutes to go, and the Trojans are holding the ball, and letting the clock run to end this game. The Trojans steal the inbound pass and its now 73-58 and 40 seconds to play and this game is going to be in the books. The final score tonight 73-58
