Cal (7-5) is hoping for its first eight-win season since 2019. The Bears want to finish strong and not have the let downs in the past two bowl appearances which left them to a 6-7 record with loses to Texas Tech and UNLV in the last two bowls them appeared in.

“We are excited to accept an invitation from the Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl and continue our season in Honolulu,” Cal general manager Ron Rivera said in a statement Thursday. “This is a reward for the hard work our student-athletes put in during the season, and we are looking forward to competing against an excellent Hawai’i team in front of a national audience.”

Sagapolutele threw for 3,1117 yards in his inaugural season with the Bears, putting him third in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 14th in the nation. He also led the ACC and ranked fourth nationally with 288 completions. His regular season ended with a flourish, completing 31-of-40 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns to lead Cal to a 38-35 upset of SMU Mustangs who were competing to get in the ACC title. California stopped that happening and allowing Duke to sneak in after a win over Wake Forest.

The Cal Bears signed 17 players Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period, worth noting four of them are from Hawaii who the Bears have played 5 times in the past history.
