Darby Allin AEW Dynamite
AEW Dynamite was pushed to Tuesday this week. It was a special 2.5-hour episode featuring their return to Dailey’s Place. What exactly happened on what was billed as Title Tuesday?
AEW World Heavyweight Championship
Tony Schiavone opened the show in the ring to promote WrestleDream. He brought “Hangman” Adam Page and Samoe Joe to the ring for a face-to-face. In summary, Joe claims Page is unworthy of the title and unwilling to do what it takes to keep it from him.
Non-Title Action On AEW Dynamite
Tomohiro Ishii versus Jon Moxley was the first match of the evening. This was mostly two men laying in stiff strikes and reversing each other back and forth. The physicality is more than one would expect from a weekly show, even with Moxley winning via chokeout. He will face Darby Allin at WrestleDream.
The Demand (Gates of Agony and Ricochet) took on The Hurt Syndicate in a trios street fight. After the genuine physicality of Moxley vs. Ishii, this certainly felt like a free street fight. Most of the table and chair spots looked soft. The finish did include an impressive chokeslam, followed by a suplex through a table, from The Hurt Syndicate to Ricochet, for the pinfall.
The next match was Jurassic Express versus an unknown team that was already in the ring. The match was, as expected, boring. Luchasaurus got some pop from the crowd before they hit their double-team finisher for the win. They were then attacked by The Young Bucks, who could outdo the babyface team.
TNT Championship
Next up, Kyle O’Reilly challenged Kyle Fletcher for the TNT Championship. The match had a nice back-and-forth, with both men executing smooth reversals; it’s just that none of O’Reilley’s pins felt believable. Fletcher retained after consecutive brain busters.
TBS Championship
Mercedes Mone held an open challenge to local talent for her TBS Championship. Lacey Lane (formerly Kayden Carter in WWE) was the surprise challenger. Neither female appeared to leave it all in the ring, or even break a sweat.
AEW World Heavyweight Tag Team Championship
Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada have a number one contender’s match against the current AEW World Tag Team Champions, Brodido. This match was also an elimination-style tag match. Takeshita, with an impressive feat of strength, hitting King with a wheelbarrow German suplex. They earned the championship match at WrestleDream, but continue the storyline of them not getting along.
AEW Dynamite Main Event
The main event of AEW Dynamite was Orange Cassidy vs. Pac. Known for his high-flying, Pac put on a mat-based clinic early on in this one. As amazing as it was, it’s unclear why the referee allowed Cassidy to put Pac through a table, jumping from the top rope to the floor.
The match then made its way into the crowd, where The Bastard hit his opponent with a tombstone on the bleachers. This is when Darby Allin snuck handcuffs onto Pac’s ankle, and the guard rail on the bleachers. He barely beat the ten-count before losing to a roll-up. The Deathriders tried to stop him, but Allin grabbed a taser and a Molotov cocktail before being speared by security to end the show.
