Wake Forest Football Builds Momentum with Hard Work This Summer
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Wake Forest’s football team isn’t just going through the motions this summer. Under first-year head coach Jake Dickert, the Demon Deacons have ramped up energy, focus and intensity during summer workouts as they gear up for the 2025 season.
“We’re setting the foundation now,” Dickert said. “This is where championships start—with hard work and attention to every detail.”
A Real Culture Shift
The difference is visible on the field. A veteran assistant, who’s been with the program through highs and lows, noticed a new competitive edge in how players approach each rep.
“They’re showing up with purpose,” the assistant coach said. “There’s accountability now—both in doing it right and pushing their teammates.”
Gone are walk-throughs and low-speed sessions. In their place: full-speed tackling, precision route-running, and situational drills full throttle.
Strength, Speed and Schemes
Control of the line of scrimmage has been a key focus this summer. Strength coach Ben Iannacchione is pushing for gains in explosive power, while new coordinator Rob Ezell has the offense running up-tempo drills to get all phases dialing in.
Position Battles Heating Up
- Quarterback competition is ongoing as signal-callers battle for timing and accuracy under pressure.
- Trench play looks more physical already—an indication of the summer’s impact ahead of tough September matchups.
- Team attitude: There’s no filler reps. Effort is demanded, and the players have responded with focus, pushing themselves and each other.
Building Toward the Season
While the spring showcase gave fans a glimpse of potential, this summer feels different—it feels like a turning point.
“This group is buying into what we’re building—day after day,” the staffer said. “That focus? That’s real.”
What’s Next?
If Wake Forest brings this elevated intensity into fall camp, they’ll be in a strong spot to rewrite recent results. With seven home games, two bye weeks and renewed energy, the Demon Deacons look ready to own 2025.
