Our College SportsCast College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings after five of the top 11 AP ranked teams fall in week six of college football. For the first time ever, in the history of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), two top five SEC teams lost to unranked opponents.
1-4 will be Power 4 conference winners, 5-11 will be at-large teams, and 12 will be the leading Group of Five conference team. Each week we will include at least 2 more honorable mention at-large teams and 2 more honorable mention Group of Five teams.
The Vanderbilt Commodores did the unthinkable, they knocked off the new top ranked Alabama Crimson Tide 40-35 in Nashville, TN. Fresh off winning against Georgia the Tide played behind the entire game as Vandy and Coach Clark Lea achieved a program defining moment. It was the first time Vanderbilt has beaten Alabama in 40 years. Fans rushed the field and carried the goal post through the streets of downtown Nashville.

In Fayetteville, the Arkansas Razorbacks landed coach Sam Pitman his best win of his tenure with a 19-14 win over the fourth tanked Tennessee Vols. The Vols high flying top ranked offense was stymied all day by a Razorback defense that was third to last in the SEC before the day began. The Hogs scored a late touchdown with just over a minute to go and hung on for the huge victory.
Missouri, USC, and defending champions Michigan all lost on the road in week six as part of the previous week’s top 11 teams. Ashton Jeanty was impressive again rushing for 186yards and three touchdowns all by halftime and carried Boise State to a win over Utah State. Army and Navy both stayed undefeated, Miami found another controversial way to come out on top over California, and Clemson won in Tallahassee over a bad Florida State team.
