ROCK HILL, S.C. – Three different Paladins netted hat tricks on Saturday afternoon as the Furman women’s lacrosse team picked up a 16-13 Big South Conference victory over the Winthrop Eagles at Eagle Field.

Furman improves to 8-8 overall and 4-3 in the Big South. The loss drops Winthrop to 6-9 on the season and 1-6 in conference play.

Reynolds Hester and Lily Toole both registered four points to lead the Paladin offense. Toole scored a team high four goals and Hester contributed three goals and an assist. Marin Hodor tied her career best of three goals. Lilly Dyer and Charlotte Kent both picked up three ground balls while Grace Gibson and Rachel Sbei both caused two turnovers. Cate Noone (5) and Skylar Hilmer (4) combined for nine draws. Goalie Sailor Henderson came off the bench to earn her first win of the season after finishing with five saves and two ground balls.

Tori Iannotti registered a game high seven points for the Eagles on five goals and two assists. Iris Leavitt and Mollie Calabrese both collected three points. In goal, Mikaylah Lindsay posted 10 saves, one ground ball, and one caused turnover.

Furman scored 10 of its 16 goals in the second half and outscored Winthrop, 5-2, in the fourth quarter highlighted by two goals from Hodor. Toole gave the Paladins a 5-2 lead at the 6:24 mark of the first quarter before the Eagles used a 5-1 run to hold a 7-6 advantage at halftime.

Furman trailed by two goals twice throughout the third quarter with the last coming at 10-8 with 6:52 remaining. The Paladins ended on a 3-1 run to head into the fourth quarter tied at 11-11. The teams traded the first four goals of the fourth period with Winthrop evening the score at 13-13 at the 8:26 mark.

Furman closed out the contest scoring the final three goals to secure the 16-13 victory. The Paladins netted two goals within a minute after Hodor’s third of the game made the score 15-13. Hester sealed the win following her goal with 1:59 to go in regulation.

Furman held a 35-31 advantage in shots, 18-11 in ground balls, and 10-5 in caused turnovers. The Paladins also recorded 16 draws and forced the Eagles into 15 turnovers.
