These AEW Grand Slam Australia results are from the show that wrapped up Saturday night in Sydney. This was a promising card, one of the better booked on paper. Whether it’s for an opportunity, a title, or even hair, all the matches felt purposeful.
AEW Continental Title Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita
The match started slowly with plenty of mat and chain work. It was relatively soft for what these two typically delivered, all the way to a time-limit draw. The match certainly had entertaining and physical moments, but to be subpar by their standards and end in a draw is unacceptable.
Grand Slam Australia Results – AEW Women’s World Tag Team Title Match
This was another lacklustre affair. Not only was it short, but there weren’t many believable false finishes or notable moments. Harley Cameron got the pin with a rollup. The winners were jumped after the match, and the titles were held over their downed bodies, as if they had accomplished something.
AEW World Title #1 Contender Match: Andrade El Idolo vs. “Hangman” Adam Page
This match finally started to ramp up the intensity in the evening. Both men executed stiff work and slick reversals. Adam Page had Andrade El Idolo lined up for the Buckshot Lariat when Don Callis jumped on the apron to cause the distraction. Page noticed this and took note.
Page still went for the lariat, and Andrade tried to reverse into a low blow. The Hangman saw it coming, pulling off a genius reversal back into a low-blow of his own. This led to the actual execution of his finisher and becoming the number one contender.
Mixed Tornado Tag Team Match: Orange Cassidy & Toni Storm vs. Death Riders (Marina Shafir & Wheeler Yuta)
Orange Cassidy and Toni Storm didn’t wait for their Death Rider opponents to do their typical entrance from the back, and the match started in the crowd. Momentum seemed to swing to the heels when Wheeler Yuta pile-drove Storm onto a gear case early on.
It was refreshing to see the men and women mixing it up with each other. Yuta took the pin, and Mina Shirakawa quickly brought out the barber equipment. They left the man with what can only be called “The Hogan.”
AEW TNT Title Ladder Match: Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Mark Briscoe
This match was filled with insane spots, including Mark Briscoe eating numerous ladders. Briscoe also had the most color, with blood noticeably pumping out of his forehead. Fletcher retained his title, but his opponent left it all out there for the betterment of the championship.
Grand Slam Australia Results – AEW World Title Match: MJF (c) vs. Brody King
Brody King showed his strength and unique move-set, but the match lacked a back-and-forth or believable false finish. MJF was also underwhelming, biting, and really just hitting a finisher to win. Page came to the ring post-match to make the next title match official at the upcoming Revolution.
AEW Grand Slam Australia Results: In Conclusion
Perhaps expectations were too great, but the show underwhelmed. A time-limit draw on PPV is borderline disrespectful to those who paid. Match of the night goes to Andrade and Page, while the dud has to be the women’s tag title match.
