ACU Wildcats Put Together Complete Performance at Home
ABILENE, Texas – ACU turned in one of its strongest performances of the season Saturday night, controlling the game from start to finish in a 35-7 victory over West Florida at Wildcat Stadium. The win marked ACU’s first United Athletic Conference victory of the season and showcased a balanced offensive attack paired with a stingy defensive effort.
The Wildcats improved to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while West Florida dropped to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the UAC.
Parks Leads Efficient Offensive Attack for ACU
Quarterback Tucker Parks was the catalyst for the ACU offense. The senior completed 16 of 17 passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns while adding 97 rushing yards on the ground. His dual-threat ability kept the Argonaut defense guessing throughout the night and allowed the Wildcats to control the tempo offensively.
ACU finished with 349 total yards, including 194 rushing yards, and averaged 6.3 yards per play. The Wildcats scored through the air and on the ground, displaying the offensive balance coaches have been seeking all season.
Early Touchdown Sparks ACU
After both teams exchanged possessions early, ACU struck late in the first quarter. With just 28 seconds remaining in the period, Parks connected with Jonathan French-Love on a 31-yard touchdown pass to cap a quick five-play, 66-yard drive. The score gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead and ignited the home crowd.
While the offense settled in, the ACU defense kept West Florida off the scoreboard and forced the visitors to work for every yard.
Wildcats Take Control Before Halftime
The second quarter belonged entirely to the Wildcats.
First, running back Rovaughn Banks Jr. broke loose for a 30-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 14-0. A few minutes later, Deonte Dean powered into the end zone from 14 yards out to make it 21-0.
Just before halftime, Parks engineered another quick scoring drive and found Jayden York for an 8-yard touchdown pass with 37 seconds left in the half. The score capped a dominant second quarter and sent ACU into the locker room with a commanding 28-0 advantage.
By halftime, the Wildcats had seized complete control of the game, while the defense had held the Argonauts scoreless through two quarters.
Defense Shuts Down Argonauts
Although West Florida finished with 328 total yards, ACU’s defense consistently made key stops and limited explosive scoring opportunities. The Wildcats kept the Argonauts out of the end zone for more than three quarters and prevented any momentum swings throughout the contest.
West Florida quarterback Ty’ray Davis threw for 208 yards and a touchdown, while running back Markel Townsend rushed for 98 yards. Despite those individual efforts, ACU’s defense tightened in crucial situations and repeatedly forced the visitors to settle for empty possessions.
Late Scores Seal the Victory
The Argonauts finally broke through with 5:17 remaining in the fourth quarter when Davis connected with Jakari Mozelle on a 22-yard touchdown pass, trimming the deficit to 28-7.
Any thoughts of a comeback were short-lived.
ACU answered with an eight-play drive that consumed nearly four minutes of clock before Parks found Bryan Henry for a 9-yard touchdown pass with 1:33 left to play. The scoring strike restored the 28-point margin and put the finishing touches on a dominant 35-7 victory.
Key Contributors
The Wildcats received production from several playmakers. Jayden York led the receiving corps with four catches for 56 yards and a touchdown, while Rovaughn Banks Jr. added 80 rushing yards and a score. Jonathan French-Love and Bryan Henry each caught touchdown passes as ACU spread the ball effectively across its offense.
For a team looking to build momentum entering conference play, Saturday’s performance checked every box. The Wildcats controlled the line of scrimmage, protected the football, played disciplined defense, and delivered their most complete victory of the season, earning a convincing 35-7 win over West Florida.
