GREENVILLE, S.C. โ Furman got its first Southern Conference win of the season, rallying past Chattanooga 3-2 on Thursday in a back-and-forth match at Timmons Arena.
Furman won 25-12, 25-15, and 16-14 to snap a three-match losing streak. The Paladins moved to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in the SoCon. Chattanooga dropped to 5-10 and 0-3.
Both teams came in winless in conference play at 0-2. Furman was also looking to regain confidence after consecutive losses to Tennessee Tech.

Chattanooga Takes the First Set
The Mocs led 25-15 in the opener, but Furman charged back and made them work for it. Chattanooga held on, with No. 5 Jordin Glass delivering the set-clinching point.
Furman Flips the Script
The Paladins responded with a dominant second set, winning 25-12. No. 20 Tennyson Gorman stepped up at the net as Furman built a lead and kept pushing. Chattanooga’s No. 23 Gracie Rose gave the Mocs a presence at the net, but it wasn’t enough to slow Furman.
In the third set, Chattanooga jumped out early, and Furman tied it at 8-8 with an ace. Chattanooga mistakes and missed chances then let the Paladins pull away. No. 23 Lindsay Walch was a force at the net, and Gorman put away the final point of the 25-15 win.
For the Mocs, No. 11 Kynli Kirkendoll was a constant threat, strong at the net and active across the floor.
Mocs Stay Alive in Set Four
Needing a win to stay in the match, Chattanooga came out with urgency. The set went back and forth early, and Walch’s kill tied it at 6-6. Furman then left open spots on the floor, and the Mocs adjusted, took control and kept it.
A violation gave Chattanooga set point, and the Mocs won 25-19 to force a deciding fifth set.
Dramatic Finish in Set Five
With Rose and Kirkendoll both up front for the Mocs, Furman still took the early lead. Chattanooga fought back, but the Paladins stayed strong at the net.
The crowd erupted when Furman went up 14-11. Chattanooga answered with a run to tie it at 14, and the arena grew tense. Furman then got the point that put it at match point. Chattanooga sent the next ball out of bounds, and the Paladins had their first conference win at home, 16-14 to win the set, 3-2 in the match.
