Greenville, S.C. – Seniors Bri Pinasco, Norah Roller, and Jenny Jacobson each netted a pair of goals to key Furman women’s soccer to a 7-1 victory over VMI in Southern Conference play Sunday afternoon on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.

With the win, Furman improved to 7-3-2 overall and remained unbeaten in league play at 2-0-1. The Keydets fell to 0-11-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the SoCon.

“It was great to see so many players contribute today and help us to another SoCon win,” said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. “We have to continue to focus on getting off to a better start, but I loved the way our team responded for the next 80 minutes after they scored the early goal.”

VMI grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when Ella Peterson received a pass from Natalie Centurione at the edge of the box and lofted a shot over the head of Paladin goalkeeper Reese DeJong and into the far corner of the net. Furman’s Hayden Barnett evened the match in the 18th minute on her third goal of the season. Sarah Sexton slid a pass down the right side to Riley O’Bryan who crossed a pass to Barnett in the middle of the box for the finish at 17:06.

Pinasco put the Paladins in front with her first goal of the day at the 18:33 mark. Marlie Nagle charged into the left side of the box and picked out Pinasco at the top of the six-yard box for a tap-in to stake Furman to a 2-1 advantage. Roller upped the Paladin lead to 3-1 in the 32nd minute. After outrunning a VMI defender to the right corner of the 18-yard box, the Birmingham, Ala., native lined a shot into the far-side netting off the underside of the cross bar at 31:34 for her fifth score of the year. Pinasco curled a free kick into the right-hand corner from the top of the box at 35:12 to increase Furman’s lead to 4-1 at the break. The score, her second goal of the day and team-leading seventh of the season, came from 20 yards out.

Less than eight minutes after the restart, Roller raced past the VMI defense once again and slotted a shot past Keydet goalkeeper Maren Ryberg to increase the lead to 5-1 at the 52:10 mark. Jacobson got on the board for the first time this season at 83:21 when she collected an errant VMI pass in the box and knocked a shot past Ryberg. The Atlanta, Ga., product doubled her total off an assist from Kasey Sitko at 86:01 for the final 7-1 margin.

The Paladins, 6-1-2 in their last nine outings, finished the match with a 22-5 advantage in total shots and 14-2 lead in shots on goal. DeJong got the win playing 56 minutes while Kylie Brookfield and Emmy Rikard closed out the victory in goal. Ryberg stopped seven shots for the Keydets.
