The Bucs faced Tusculum University for the first time since November 1950, this past Saturday at Greene Stadium in Johnson City. Kickoff was at 5:30pm.
First Quarter for The Bucs
It was a busy first quarter for both Tusculum and ETSU, as Tusculum scored one touchdown. However, ETSU followed suit and secured two touchdowns, but only one with an extra point. ETSU failed to complete a 2-Point Conversion on their 2nd touchdown of the game.
Major players this quarter were Suderian Harrison, for his 55yd catch, and then touchdown in the first minute of the game. Additionally, Cam Ferguson rushed up the middle 1yd to score another touchdown for ETSU.
Second Quarter
This, and also the 3rd quarter, remained scoreless for Tusculum thanks to a major swing in the defensive tactics of ETSU from Week 0. Not without effort though, Tusculum’s QB Tedros Gleaton made rushing attempts throughout each quarter but to no avail.
Suderian Harrison again was a key player in the 2nd, as well as TJ Peyton. Peyton provided ETSU with their only score of the 2nd as well as multiple rushing advances throughout.
Third Quarter
Another scoreless quarter for Tusculum, while ETSU accrued another 2 touchdowns to widen their lead. Both of these scores came from huge passes by QB Mason Mims. First touchdown was a 45yd pass up the middle to Brandon Winton. Additionally the second touchdown from Mason Mims was to Kingsport Native Charlie Browder. Browder caught the 31yd pass at the Tusculum 20 and rushed the rest for an ETSU touchdown.
Standout players this quarter were Harrison for rushing, then Winton and Browder for furthering ETSU’s stronghold of a lead. Their contributions brought ETSU to a 34-7 lead going into the final quarter
4th Quarter Shutdown
The Bucs completed another scoring drive in the mid 4th. ETSU spent almost 6 and a half minutes, and 9 plays over 85yds to score. Tyler Griffin, TJ Peyton, Jaiden Daniels, and Jason Albritton all contributed in the drive, but Albritton made the final rush up the middle for another ETSU touchdown.
Tusculum was finally able to advance past a one score game, with a 57 yard run from Lavante Adams with 3:20 left in the matchup. ETSU responded in kind with an additional touchdown from D’Marius Rucker, rushing up the middle for a 10yd push to score.
Wrap-Up Stats for The Bucs
By far, this defense showed up today to stifle Tusculum to a 2 touchdown game. Overall, The Bucs had 484 total yards, converted 8-11 Third downs, and had a total of 20 first downs.
The Bucs’ QB Mason Mims went 13-21, 242 total yards, 3 TD’s, and the first and interception of his career at ETSU. Leading rushers for ETSU were Peyton with 121 yards, Daniels with 56 yards, and Rucker with 28 yards. For receiving, Harrison led the way with 71 yards, Winton with 52 yards, and Griffin with 50.
