Fitzgerald stays hot; Cooper scores first goal of 2026
FARMVILLE, Va. (Aug. 30, 2026) – The ETSU women’s soccer team won its third straight match on Sunday with a 2-1 victory at Longwood thanks to goals from Reagan Fitzgerald and Jada Cooper. The victory is the seventh win in the last eight non-conference games for the Buccaneers (3-1-0) dating back to a 1-0 win last season over this same Lancers (2-3) team on Aug. 31, 2025.
The Bucs were the aggressors early and broke through in the 18th minute. Hayberg headed a ball forward then intercepted the ensuing clearance attempt and linked up with Fitzgerald 40 yards from goal. The senior took two dribbles and fired a left-footed thunderbolt that found room inside the top-left corner just beyond the reach of Lancers goalkeeper Brynn Clagett. Fitzgerald nearly scored again moments later when Molly Cason found her with a long pass running between the center backs, but a last-ditch tackle at the moment of the shot kept her from firing on the edge of the 18-yard box.
ETSU doubled its lead five minutes later. Ella Parker dribbled out of traffic on the left wing in her own half of the field and connected with Estep, who took three strides to the midfield line and saw Cooper in behind the left back, feeding her a long aerial pass that set up for Cooper to run onto. She fired a smooth right-footed shot on her first touch that skimmed under a leaping Clagett for her first goal of 2026 and the seventh of her career.
Longwood got one back just before the hour mark when a physical passage of play between Reese Coggeshall and McKlain Jones left Jones flattened and the Lancers with a two-on-two. Coggeshall found Addie Russell on the right wing, who crossed over her defender and fired an arcing shot that dipped under the bar and hit the back-left corner of the net for Russell’s first collegiate goal.
ETSU outshot Longwood 9-7 with three shots on goal to one. Fitzgerald led the way with four shots, while Duffey had two. Fitzgerald has a three-game point streak with two goals and an assist while Hayberg has four points (one goal, two assists) in the last two games, and Estep has assists in consecutive games.
The Bucs head to Atlanta on Thursday for a 7:00pm matchup at Georgia State.
