LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia – The Gwinnett Stripers (23-27, 61-63) fell behind early and nearly completed a comeback against the Durham Bulls (30-19, 58-66) in a 3-2 loss on Saturday night at Gwinnett Field. The Bulls lead the series 4-1.

Decisive Plays: A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a two-run single by Jack Suwinski put Durham ahead 3-0 in the second inning. That score remained until Luke Williams crushed a solo homer (7) to left field to make it 3-1 in the sixth. Both teams were blanked until the ninth, when Lizandro Epinoza tucked a double inside the left field line to make it a one-run game. Down 3-2 with runners on the corners and one out, the Stripers couldn’t score again as Alex Cook (S, 2) escaped the jam.

Key Contributors: Williams (1-for-3, homer, RBI) and Espinoza (1-for-4, double, RBI) drove in Gwinnett’s two runs. For Durham, Suwinski (1-for-4, 2 RBIs) had the only RBI base hit. Starter Mason Englert (W, 1-6) allowed one run over 6.0 innings (3 H, 0 BB, 5 SO).

Noteworthy: The Stripers are now 13-26 in one-run games this season, the most one-run losses in the International League. DaShawn Keirsey Jr.’s eighth inning stolen base moved him into a tie for fourth place all-time in Gwinnett single-season history (37 SB).
