Four of first seven, four of last six at home for Bucs as conference moves to 20-game slate
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 11, 2026) – The Southern Conference men’s basketball schedule was released by the SoCon office on Tuesday, with all 11 members of the conference learning their paths to Asheville in 2026-27. Notable home games for ETSU include UNCG on December 19, Furman on December 22, Tennessee Tech on January 13, Chattanooga on January 21, and the regular season finale against Samford on February 27.
With the addition of Tennessee Tech, each SoCon team will play an expanded 20-game schedule in 2026-27. The Bucs will play four of their first seven conference games at home and four of their last six, bookending a stretch where they will play seven games in 18 days between January 16 and February 3.
The Bucs kick off the SoCon season on December 5 with a trip to VMI before their conference home opener two weeks later against UNCG, followed quickly by a December 22 date with Furman at Freedom Hall. ETSU will ring in the new year with the Mercer/Samford swing on December 30 and January 2, respectively, before returning home for Western Carolina on January 19 and the first conference matchup with Tennessee Tech in men’s basketball in nearly 50 years on January 13.
ETSU runs the heart of its SoCon gauntlet beginning with a trip to UNCG on January 16, kicking off a stretch of seven games in 18 days with five road contests. They play at The Citadel on Martin Luther King Day before returning home for Chattanooga. They go back on the road two days after facing the Mocs to visit Wofford on January 23, then return home for Mercer on January 27. They end January at Furman and travel to the Roundhouse to face Chattanooga on February 3 to cap their long run of road games.
Four of the final six contests are at home, with VMI on February 6, Wofford on February 13, The Citadel on February 24, and Samford to close the regular season on February 27. Road trips to Tennessee Tech on the 10th and Western Carolina on the 18th are wedged inside that stretch, as well. The season culminates in the SoCon Men’s Basketball Championship at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville beginning March 4, with the champion crowned four days later.
