Augusta (4-1, 39-32) scored first for the second night in a row, taking the lead three batters in as they attempted to provide a rare dose of run support for Ethan Bagwell. Luis Guanipa began the inning with a single, and after swiping second, he trotted home on an RBI double from Alex Lodise.

Charleston (3-2, 40-31) was kept quiet early by Bagwell but found the scoreboard for the first and only time in the bottom of the 4th. Cooper Flemming blooped in a single to start and took third on a double from Brady Marget. Flemming scored on an RBI grounder, but Bagwell kept the go-ahead run stranded, and the Dogs would not threaten again. Ethan ended the night with six one-run innings and the win, marking his team-leading fifth quality start of the season.
Could you see it? No. Did it go far? YES!

Augusta would score 18 consecutive runs from the top of the 5th to the top of the 9th, which was initiated by a go-ahead two-run homer from Alex Lodise. From there, the Jackets used a consistent combo of hits and runs to score the most they have put up in a game since joining the Braves organization.

The night was highlighted by the top of the 7th, where Augusta sent 15 batters to the plate and scored nine runs. The Jackets used four hits, seven walks, and a hit batter to accomplish the feat, which was highlighted by Michael Martinez’s emphatic three-run blast. Augusta saw one more exciting moment in the 9th, as Juan Mateo hit his first stateside home run, and sailed through the final few frames to victory.

With the biggest win of the season in hand, and the offense seemingly on fire up and down the order, Augusta turns its attention to Blake Morgan, who has been untouchable in four Single-A starts and takes the ball for the RiverDogs tomorrow. The Jackets will look for Derek Vartanian to repeat last week’s performance, where he allowed just one earned run and got the win across five innings.
