GREENVILLE, S.C. – Allie Kandel and Lily Toole registered a game high four points apiece Saturday afternoon as the Furman women’s lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a 13-9 Big South Conference victory over the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs at Spangler Stadium.

Furman improves to 9-8 overall and 5-3 in the Big South. The loss drops Gardner-Webb to 2-15 on the season and 2-6 in conference play.

Kandel led all players with a game high four goals while Toole contributed a hat trick and one assist. Kandel added four draws and two ground balls, and Toole posted one ground ball and one caused turnover. Reynolds Hester and Emily Muir both totaled three points on two goals and one assist. Cassie Larsen picked up a career best five ground balls and Zoe Milmoe caused a match high three turnovers. Skylar Hilmer won five draws. In goal, Sailor Henderson finished with a career high 11 saves to go with four ground balls and one caused turnover.

Kandel, a junior from Wilbraham, Mass., netted three of her four goals in the first half as the Paladins built a 7-2 lead at halftime. Furman scored four of the game’s opening five goals to lead by four at the 13:11 mark of the second quarter following Kandel’s second of the contest. Gardner-Webb cut the score down to 4-2 halfway through the second quarter when the Paladins closed on a 3-0 run.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs outscored Furman 4-2 in the third quarter and trimmed the Paladins lead down to 9-6 heading to the fourth. Furman answered with a 3-1 run of its own and took a 12-7 lead with 9:42 remaining in regulation off Toole’s third goal. Shae Insinga made it a 13-8 contest with 7:27 to go following her first goal of the afternoon.

The Paladins concluded the contest holding a 33-24 advantage in shots, 19-11 in ground balls, 10-8 in caused turnovers, and 14-10 in draws. Furman also forced the Runnin’ Bulldogs into 15 turnovers.
