AEW Dynamite this week stopped in the Mile High City. The Revolution PPV card is coming together, and the main event of this episode was a ten-man tag with no disqualifications.
AEW Dynamite – Continental Championship Qualifier
The opening match was an AEW Continental qualifier match. If El Clon could beat the current champ, Jon Moxley, they’d be provided a title shot. El Clon is one of the better recent pickups by the company, so it felt odd to slow his roll in a clean loss here. It felt like a time-limit draw before the loss may boost his status.
Who’s House?
Swerve Strickland felt the need to cut a promo on the announce desk. It felt generic for his typical standard. In short, the whole roster was put on notice.
AEW Dynamite – Singles Matches
“Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy versus “War Ready” Gabb Kidd was the next contest, and it was a physical one. Kidd was planting potatoes all night. Cassidy had a couple of slick reversals, but it was shocking how quickly he lost the match clean. Clark Connors joined his friend after the match to cause further pain, but Darby Allin evened the odds for Orange.
“The Jet” Kevin Knight versus Mansoor was next. The squash match led to a promo in which he wants first crack at “Hangman” Adam Page if he wins the title. The next segment was a promo between Page and MJF, but Knight wasn’t involved at all. This segment was a waste of time.
MJF & “Hangman” Adam Page
MJF had made Page wait until this week to answer his stipulation request of a Texas Death Match. Leaving it up to chance, a coin flip decided against Hangman’s choice. The champion chose a one-way, no-disqualification match.
Page asked to see the quarter he flipped, but MJF was out of there. Brody King and JetSpeed blocked the retreat, and the general manager awarded the coin flip victory to the challenger. They will have a Texas Death Match for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship at Revolution in March.
AEW Dynamite – Women’s World Tag Team Championship
MegaBad (Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne) had a shot at Babes of Wrath (Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron) and their AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship. How obviously the referee was calling the spots ruined any suspended disbelief in this match. There wasn’t a finish, as Leena Cross came to the aid of MegaBad, forcing the match to be thrown out.
AEW Dynamite – Mark Davis Vs. Brody King
Mark Davis versus Brody King was next. These thick boys brought the pain. Something felt off with the finish. King hit a lariat, and Davis was quickly joined by medical. He challenged Strickland to a match at Revolution to determine the most dangerous man in AEW.
AEW Dynamite – Main Event
The main event was a ten-man anything-goes tag team match. The Demand and FTR teamed up to fight “Jungle” Jack Perry, The Young Bucks, and The Rascalz. It certainly was chaotic as they battled around the arena, but it lacked purpose. None of the spots shown were overly impressive or dangerous.
Things eventually picked up. The babyface team lacked physicality, but showcased their athleticism and high spots. Perry picked up the pin for his team’s victory.
