Lady Deacs Blown Out At Home
The Lady Deacs suffered a nearly thirty point loss to the Carolina Tar Heels at home on Sunday 84-56 in Grace Oliver’s return. Milan Brown was the only player to score in double figures. The Demon Deacons only held a lead for 12% of the game. Every player that saw the floor for Wake Forest had a turnover. Nyla Harris and Nyla Brooks combined for 40 points for the Tar Heels, while 5 Tar Heels had 5 or more rebounds.
As A Team
The Lady Deacs shot 40% from the field, 21% from three, and 71% from the free throw line. 13 of the Lady Deacs 20 field goals were assisted, good for 65%. The 21% from three mark is the 2nd lowest in that category this season. The lowest single-game percentage this season came against Miami when the Lady Deacs shot only 11% from beyond the arc. Only 2 players for the Demon Deacons had 5 or more rebounds. The Lady Deacs were outrebounded 41-24, and gave up a combined 18 turnovers.
Milan Brown led the way with 13 points on 6-11 shooting, including 1-2 from three. Brown also had 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. Aurora Sorbye had 8 points on 204 shooting and 103 from beyond the arc. Sorbye also had a rebound and a steal. Emily Johns led the way off the bench with 7 points on 3-4 shooting, with 5 rebounds as well.
Moving Forward
The loss to the Tar Heels on Sunday night drops the Lady Deacs to 13-12 overall and 3-10 in ACC play. This puts the Demon Deacons in 15th place in the ACC standings, just above the ACC tournament cut line. The Lady Deacs still have a couple of big opportunities left on the schedule in road games against Louisville and NC State. Three of the last five remaining games are road games, and 2 of them are Quad 1 games. The Lady Deacs have a tough road ahead if they want any chance of making it to March Madness.
