Trojans and Wolves Battle in Women’s Basketball

The Anderson Trojans Women’s Basketball Team (9-11, 5-9 SAC) welcome to Abney Athletic Center the Newberry Wolves (11-9, 5-9 SAC) in a battle for seeding in the up-and-coming SAC Women’s Basketball tournament coming up the first week of March. The Trojans earned an 81-68 win over Mars Hill (4-17, 1-13 SAC) on Friday afternoon in their second weekend of rescheduled games due to inclement weather. Every player that got minutes scored for the Trojans who move to 9-11 overall and 5-9 in the SAC with the win.

Newberry women’s basketball dropped a road contest at UVA Wise, 74–43, on Friday evening. The Cavaliers used a strong opening half to build momentum, taking a 42–16 lead into halftime. Despite the early deficit, the Wolves continued to compete throughout the final two quarters, looking to find rhythm on both ends of the floor. With the result, Newberry moves to (5-9 SAC) on the season.

The First period is controlled by the Trojans as Ciara Harris leads the way with 13 points and the Lady Trojans have a 30-5 lead over the visiting Wolves from Newberry. It’s clear to see the Trojans with Coach Jonathon Barbaree are out to make a statement tonight they are ready for the SAC tournament. The Wolves was led by Rickell Brown with 2 points.

The second period begins with Newberry coming out on fire and pulling the game to 34-16 at the 7-minute mark in the second period. The Trojans would allow them to get as close as 16 at the 2:36 mark but Freshman #4 Ashley Hill drains a three to make it 43-22. The Wolves would keep fighting to get back in the game and at halftime the Trojans would go in with a 45-28 lead.

The open up the third period both teams get their first shots in, as we look like a back-and-forth battle in the first few minutes of the game. The game at the 4:35 mark is still at 20 points as Anderson has kept Newberry at bay. Trojans Graduate Gurad Ciara Harris has had a huge game with 21 points so far in the game, as Newberry has two at 9 points apiece leading them as the score now is 59-36 3 minutes left as we have a media timeout. We head to the fourth and final period with the Trojans leading 66-43 and look for interviews with Coach and a player after the game on GSM YouTube.

The fourth and final period with just under seven minutes left the trojans still have a 20pt lead at 68-48 over the visiting Wolves of Newberry. The Lady Trojans seem to match ever basket the Wolves hit to keep their lead intact as the time starts to dwindle down in the game. Jada Brown is leading the Wolves with 11 points as we head into a media timeout with 4:44 left in the game 72-50 Anderson leading Newberry! The Trojans hold on to a huge win 79-52 win over Newberry.
