AEW Collision was the Maximum Carnage edition from Phoenix, Arizona. Looking beyond a couple of squash matches, there were a few promising matches. Tag action, new champs, and more, all on these Collision results.
Poor Angelico
Angelico continues to be disrespected in AEW. This time, he was already in the ring for the beginning of the show. They were sure to give Andrade el Idolo his intro and pyro. Not only that, the match took about as long as this paragraph did to write.
Tag Team Action
The Grizzled Young Veterans versus Ortiz and Eddie Kingston truly kicked off the evening in an intriguing aspect. It was an entertaining and physical, back-and-forth affair. Both teams also showed off some classic tag maneuvers, including foreign objects, while the referee was distracted. Kingson ultimately got the pin from one of those moments.
Tony Schivone called out the current AEW World Tag Team Champions, FTR, along with their manager, Big Stoke. This was a promo for their upcoming title defense against Davis and Doyle. There was nothing unexpected or noteworthy. They’d mention how they had just one match as a team, and don’t belong beside them.
More Squash
Zayda Steel had the tough test of “The Problem” Marina Shafir. Steel came out hot, but she still has work to do on her pace and timing. Shafir was too dominant a force, winning by submission via her Mother’s Milk hold.
The Don Callis Family
Representing the Don Callis Family, El Clon, Kyle Fletcher, and Josh Alexander came out for a trios match, but they’d get in a brawl with the Deathriders at ringside. The scheduled opponents, SkyFlight, put an end to the mayhem with a triple suicide dive to the floor.
The trios match would finally get started. SkyFlight is always going to look good with their regular high spots, but this was booked clearly to make the Don Callis Family look strong. The family was reunited with Konosuke Takeshita after the match.
Return From Injury
Danielle Kamela and Viva Van were already in the ring to take on Megan Bayne and a returning Penelope Ford (who was out due to injury). This was another squash match – Ford pulled just one move after being tagged in to win the match.
Collision Results – AEW National Championship #1 Contender
A shot at Ricochet and his AEW National Championship was on the line when “Jungle” Jack Perry and “The Pride of Pro Wrestling” Anthony Bowens tied up. The match lacked any real intensity and wasn’t long enough to truly build up any emotions. Perry ultimately won before the current champ started brawling with him backstage to end the segment.
Collision Results – AEW World Trios Championship
The AEW World Trios Championship was on the line in the main event. JetSpeed teamed with “Hangman” Adam Page to challenge The Opps for their belts. The finish was rather anticlimactic with a roll-up from Kevin Knight to become the new trios champions.
