Darby Allin AEW Dynamite
AEW Dynamite this week was a special Maximum Cargnage edition. With grudge, number one contender, and title matches on the card, it was destined to be a great one. Continue for Dynamite results 01.14.26.
Darby Allin Vs. Pac
Darby Allin and Pac opened the show with a rematch in their ongoing rivalry. Allin kicked it off before the bell even rang, throwing his Deathrider opponent into the barricade and through the fans. They’d fight their way back to ringside when Pac hit a gruesome belly-to-belly suplex on the actual incline of the steel steps. The match then got started, with “The Bastard” in control early.
After the period of dominance, Pac started to work an ankle injury, which Allin capitalized on. A Coffin Drop to the outside set up the Scorpion Death Lock. The referee was knocked out, hence, didn’t see the tap at first. It took work to wake him up, but another Scorpion Death Lock set up the finish.
AEW World Heavyweight Championship Picture
The next match saw “Hangman” Adam Page take on “The Bounty Hunter” Brian Keith. It was a physical match in which both men had their moments, but they didn’t give Keith enough time to look good in the loss, just a classic jobber on this evening. Swerve Strickland and Kenny Omega came to cut promos with Hangman after the match, all three chasing the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.
Don Callis came to the top of the entrance ramp, challenging Omega to take on “The Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander. Declining a request for the match tonight, Callis told him it’d take place next week on Dynamite.
Brody King had a match with Johnathan Cruz (MJF’s Spanish interpreter). Yet another squash match for King, as they continue to book him poorly. The only purpose appeared to be promoting Bandido’s match for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship later in the night.
Dynamite Results – World Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders
Mark Davis and Jake Doyle had a number one contenders match against JetSpeed, Gates of Agony, and The Young Bucks. JetSpeed and The Young Bucks stood out for their pace, reversals, and high spots, while the other teams stood out for their strength and tandem moves. There were also plenty of tense false finishes in this four-team match.
Davis finished the match with a piledriver. This new team looks promising, especially for fans of a stiff, old-school style. Current AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR jumped the winners in an attempt to gain an advantage for their upcoming title match, but the teams came out fairly even on the exchange.
Women’s Trios Action
Triangle of Madness were up next in trios action against the Babes of Wrath and Kris Statlander. Willow Knightingale continues to stand out from the crowd, and the fact that Thekla pinned the AEW Women’s World Champion is wild and confusing.
Dynamite Results – Bandido Vs. MJF
Bandido had a shot at MJF and his AEW World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. The challenger did have a few entertaining high spots, including a crossbody over the crowd barricade from the top rope, but it was largely MJF early.
Bandido did battle back and got on a roll, but it never felt realistic to believe the false finishes. MJF ultimately won via submission, but not a tapout, in an effort to protect the ROH Champion.
