No. 4 Anderson University Men’s Basketball (14-0, 8-0 SAC) notched its 14th-straight victory, remaining undefeated after topping conference opponent Tusculum (7-7, 3-5 SAC) 86-65 at home Saturday evening.

“Our guys do an unbelievable job of being ready to play.” Said head coach Jimmie Williams. “Tusculum is a tough scout especially on a short turnaround. Their matchup zone is different than others we’ve seen this year and it required out attention to detail and focus.”

The Pioneers matched the Trojans’ pace early, opening the contest with strong energy to even the score in the sixth minute. Anderson responded with an 11-7 run, keeping a close lead for the remainder of the half. The Black and Gold’s offense found their rhythm coming out of the break, recording their largest lead of 24 with four minutes remaining in the contest.

Five Trojans tallied double digits on the floor with redshirt-senior Kadyn Dawkins (Greensboro, N.C.) posting 16 points to lead the team while shooting 60% from deep, 100% from the charity line and 75% overall. Junior Osmar Garcia-Araujo (Sugar Hill, Ga.) followed shortly behind with 15 points on the game, turning in an impressive all-around game for Anderson. He closed the night shooting 66.6% overall and 87.5% from the foul line while adding eight rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal. Freshman Rashawn Inglemon (Sacramento, Calif.) added 14 points, shooting 1-for-1 from the line and contributed to the Trojan’s defense with two rebounds and one steal.

Junior AJ Wright Jr. (Clearwater, Fla.) filled the stats sheet for the Black and Gold, adding 13 points with nine assists and shooting 100% from the stripe. Defensively, he added six rebounds and two steals to the Trojans’ final tally. Senior Malachai Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) dropped 11 points on the game to round out the team’s double-digit scorers.

Anderson held the edge over Tusculum in all major statistical categories, recording 54.4% from the floor and 83.3% from the charity stripe while collectively tallying 35 rebounds, 17 assists, and 38 points in the paint.

“Thursday really needs to be both a recovery day and a practice day.” added Williams. “Everyone has a vital role on this team. Our guys that aren’t in the main rotation for minutes take on the role of being on scout team. They had us ready for their zone. We would not have been as prepared without Cason, Cal, and Grant being locked in on the scout. That’s just another example of this team not having an ego but having huge expectations.”

The Black and Gold round out their series of home contests on Wednesday, Jan. 14 when they host SAC opponent Catawba. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
